DAYTONA BEACH – The (3-4) USF women's basketball team is returning home with a 74-57 victory over Flagler College. The Cougars went 1-1 on the weekend at the Bahama Shootout Classic in Daytona Beach, Florida.
WHAT HAPPENED
· The Cougars and Saints battled back and forth throughout the first half seeing five lead changes before USF ultimately gained a 30-26 lead heading into the half.
· Megan Fannin gave Sioux Falls their biggest lead of the game in the fourth quarter to put the Cougars up 61-37.
· The Cougars picked up 21 points off of 14 Saint turnovers while picking up 36 points in the paint and 31 off the bench.
SIOUX FALLS LEADERS
· Olivia Gamoke led the Cougars again today with 13 points on the day while going 5-5 from the free throw line.
· Gamoke also pulled down four rebounds for the Cougars in today's match-up.
· Three Cougars recorded 12 points on the day led by Brecli Honner, Madison Birnbaum and freshman Tayah Leenderts.
· Leenderts picked up a career high 12 points on the night while going 3-4 from the field and 6-12 from the free throw line.
· Birnbaum pulled down a career high 11 rebounds and a season high 12 points on the day while also forcing a career high three steals against the Saints.
TEAM STATISTICS
· The Cougars picked up their third win of the season shooting 46.3% from the field, 31.8% from three point territory and 68% from the free throw line.
· Sioux Falls shot their best from the field and behind the arch in the 3rd quarter when they went 9-14 in field goals and 4-7 in three pointers.
UP NEXT
Sioux Falls (3-4) will make their way back to South Dakota to prepare for their home conference opener against Wayne State this Thursday. The women's team will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
