Juac and Thompson Named USF Athletes of the Week

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Following the past two weekend's performances, USF Athletics is pleased to announce Khot Juac as Female Athlete of the Week and Jack Thompson as Male Athlete of the Week.

Juac concluded her 2nd trip to the NCAA Championships with a 5th place finish. She made it back after becoming the first USF Women's Cross Country runner to qualify for the National Meet last season. This time around she has earned All-American honors with her 5th place finish in a time of 20:00.0, besting 6th place by 00:00.1. Khot's time and place from the NCAA Championships in 2022 stood as the records for USF in both highest finish and best time. She set new program bests in these categories improving on her time by 90 seconds and her place by 43 places. She had a dominant season for the Cougars competing in 6 events. She won 2 of them, placed 2nd at the Augie Twilight, 3rd at the NSIC Championships, took 2nd at NCAA Regionals, and 5th out of 391 runners at the Roy Griak invitational.

Jack Thompson of USF Men's Basketball has had a strong start to his season. He led the team in scoring in both games with 13 vs. Sonoma State and 14 vs. Stanislaus State. He also led the team in minutes played and is leading in that category for the season as well playing just over 34 minutes per game. He also played a game high 37 minutes vs. rival Augustana. Jack had 10 points, 8 assists, and 7 rebounds in that Coo victory. Thompson again played a game high in minutes vs. Chadron State with 36. He also scored a game high 25 points to along with 8 assists. Jack has played a very key role in USF Men's Basketball's 3 game win streak. Thompson was also named to the NSIC Men's Basketball Starting 5 after his performances vs. Augustana and Chadron State.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS

·         Kami Wadsworth of USF Women's Basketball was named to the NSIC Women's Basketball Starting 5 after her performances vs. Black Hills State and SD Mines. The freshman had 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists in the loss to Black Hills State, and had 16 points with 5 boards in the win over South Dakota Mines. She had 10 points vs. rival Augustana and a game high 16 points vs. Northern state.

·         Ayla Brown is also having a good start to her freshman season with USF Women's Basketball. She had 12 points and a game and career high 5 assists vs. SD Mines. She led USF in scoring vs. Augustana with a career high 14 points. Brown finished off the weekend with a 13 point and 3 assist performance against Northern State.

·         Coo Swimming participated in their Mid-Season Meet Nov. 16-18. The team had 34 career best times, 59 season bests, 2 B-Cut times, and placed 5th for the overall meet.

·         Inte Pas had a standout meet for Cougar Swimming. She beat a D1 swimmer to claim the 200 Breaststroke final. She was the only 'A' final winner for USF and posted a time of 2:16.11.

·         Phini Schumacher also had a stellar meet over the weekend. She posted a career best in the 200 Butterfly. She also posted a B-Cut time in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 55.93 which helped her place 2nd in the event.

·         Val Childs also was able to secure a B-Cut. She led off the 800 Free Relay with a time of 1:52.74 so get her B-Cut in the 200 Freestyle.

·         USF Women's Wrestling made history on Nov. 19 by beating Dakota Wesleyan 39-10. This was the first ever Women's College Wrestling dual in the state of South Dakota.

·         Pauly Garcia took first place in the Freshman division over the weekend for Men's Wrestling. He went 4-0 in the 125-pound weight class.

·         Beau Klingensmith secured his 2nd title of the season. He won the Gold division at 133-pounds. Klingensmith won by fall, pin, and decision to claim his title.

·         Ashtin Johnson also took first place in the Freshman division over the weekend. He won the 174-pound weight class over teammate Timothy Lacina.

·         Creighton Morisch has had a solid start to the season for USF Men's Basketball. He is averaging a double-double leading the Cougars in points per game with 12.3 and leading in rebounds per game where he is averaging 11.0. He tied for a game high 8 rebounds vs. Augustana where he also had 4 blocks. Morisch had another solid game vs. Chadron State where he tallied 11 points and 5 rebounds.

·         Kyle Ingwerson has also had a good run to start the season for Men's Basketball. He has started each of the last 3 games for the Coo and USF has won all 3. In his first start he had 13 points and 8 rebounds vs. Stanislaus State. Against Augustana he had a career and game high 20 points to go along with a career high 8 rebounds.
