Crookston, Minn. - The University of Sioux Falls Women's Basketball team picked up a road victory against Minnesota Crookston 56-48.
Both the Cougars and Golden Eagles started this one slowly as Crookston took the opening period 7-5. USF shot 11% from the field and made 1 from behind the arc while UMC shot 18% from the field and also only made 1 3 pointer. Things picked up offensively in the second quarter as the Cougars offense came to life. USF made 5 from 3 point range and shot 44% for the quarter and Crookston shot 50% from both the field and behind the arc but only made 1 3. The Coo took a 27-20 lead to the halftime locker room.
In the second half the Cougar defense started to come alive. USF held UMC to 36% from the field shooting and did not make a 3. The Cougars shot 26% from the field as well, but made 2 3s to help them win the quarter 18-14. The Golden Eagles would compete to the end winning the final period 14-11. Neither team shot the ball great in the 4th quarter as USF shot 23% from the field and made 1 from behind the arc and Crookston shot 33% from both 3 point range and the field. UMC had 22 points in the paint compared to 16 for USF. The Cougars had 17 points off of Golden Eagle turnovers, 15 bench points, and won the rebounding battle 45-38.Â
LEADERS
Brecli Honner paced the Cougars in scoring tonight with a season high 15 points. Ayla Brown, Madison Wuebben, and Danielle Minsaas each added 9 points as well. Â
Ayla Brown led USF in rebounding with a career high 11 boards. Kami Wadsworth added a career high 8 and Brecli Honner had a season high 7 boards. Madison Wuebben also had a season high 6 rebounds. Minsaas had a career high 5 steals and Honner had a career high 4 steals as well.Â
Brown led USF in assists with 4. Honner and Wadsworth each added 3 dimes as well. Ayla Brown also played a team high 39 minutes.
