Cougar Women's Basketball Falls to Northern State

Sioux Falls, S.D. - The University of Sioux Falls Women's Basketball team fell to Northern State tonight 72-58.

The Cougars started out hot in the first quarter to take a 23-12 lead after 1 period. The Coo shot 66% from the field and went 5-5 from behind the arc. USF used stifling defense to grab their lead as they held NSU to 29% shooting from the field and only made 1 3-pointer. In the 2nd period Northern State started to take control winning the quarter 20-9. The Wolves shot 44% from the field and from behind the arc while holding USF to 33% shooting and 2-5 from 3. The Cougars and Wolves were tied at 32 heading into the halftime break. 

Coming out of the halftime locker room NSU started to grow their lead. They shot 66% from the field and 50% from 3 while holding USF to 5-11 from the field and 1-3 from behind the arc. Northern took a 56-44 lead into the final quarter. USF fought hard in the 4th quarter but ultimately weren't able to pull off a comeback. Northern shot over 50% from both the field and the 3-point line while holding USF to 33% shooting from the field and no 3s. NSU won the points in the paint battle 38-22 and took the rebounding battle 31-30. The Cougars had 23 turnovers for the game and Northern capitalized on that scoring 31 points off of those turnovers. 

LEADERS

Kami Wadsworth led USF in scoring with 20 points. Kylie Wroblewski got her first start for USF and scored a season high 12 points and Ayla Brown also chipped in 8 points.   

Brown and Wroblewski tied for the team lead in rebounds with 6. Madison Wuebben and Danielle Minsaas each added 3 as well. 

Brown led USF in assists with 4. Sidney Swanson was next for USF with 3 and Wuebben added 2 assists as well. Ayla Brown played a game high 34 minutes while Wadsworth and Brecli Honner each played 33 minutes for the Coo. 

UP NEXT

The Cougars will be back in action tomorrow Saturday January 27. They will be in the Stewart Center taking on UMary starting at 3:30PM.
