Brown and Thompson Named USF Athletes of the Week

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Following the past weekend's performances, USF Athletics is pleased to announce Ayla Brown as Female Athlete of the Week and Jack Thompson as Male Athlete of the Week.

Brown helped lead USF Women's Basketball to their first weekend sweep of the season and the team has won 3 straight games overall. On Friday vs. St. Cloud State she had a career high 19 points on 9-12 shooting. She also led the team in assists with 4. Then, on Saturday, she had 8 points and tied for the team lead with a career high 9 rebounds and also tied for the team lead in assists with 3. Ayla played a game high 36 minutes in the win over Bemidji State. She has started every game this season and is averaging 11 points per game as a true freshman.

Thompson turned in two stellar performances this weekend as USF Men's Basketball went 1-1. They beat St. Cloud State 92-83 and lost a tight battle with Bemidji State 75-74 in the final seconds. Against St. Cloud Thompson had a game high 22 points and added a game high 4 assists as well. Jack went 10-10 from the free throw line and played a game high 32 minutes. On Saturday against Bemidji State he had a team high 21 points. He also added a team high 6 assists and played a season high 38 minutes. Overall for the weekend, Jack had 43 points, 10 assists, played 70 total minutes out of a possible 80, and went 14-14 from the free throw line. 

MEMORABLE MOMENTS

·         Noah Puetz also had a solid weekend for the USF Men's Basketball team. He had double digit point totals in both games with 15 against St. Cloud and 13 vs. Bemidji State. He tied for the team lead in rebounds with 8 against St. Cloud and was second on the team with 5 against BSU. He was perfect from the free throw line against SCSU going 6-6 and went 6-6 from the field vs. Bemidji.

·         True Freshman Kami Wadsworth had a good weekend for USF Women's Basketball. She led the Coo in scoring for both games as she tallied a career high 19 points on Friday vs. St. Cloud and a team high 12 in the win over Bemidji State on Saturday. She is scoring 11.8 points per game so far this season and has started every game for USF. 

·         True Freshman Danielle Minsaas had a consistent weekend for Cougar Women's Basketball. In both wins she recorded 9 points and is averaging 6.7 points per game. She had a career high 4 steals against St. Cloud. On Saturday vs. Bemidji she set career highs in minutes with 31, free throws made and attempted, rebounds with 9, assists, and blocks.

·         Zoe Adam had an outstanding weekend for USF Women's Wrestling. She was the Cougars' lone individual champion for the day. Wresting at 191 she went 4-0 with three pins and a tech. fall. She advances to 16-3 on the year.

·         Rei Ogden also had a solid showing for Cougar Women's Wrestling. She took 8th out of 20 competitors at 123-pounds. She went 4-2 on the day with all 4 of her wins coming via pin. Ogden is 19-5 on the year.
