Sioux Falls, S.D. - The University of Sioux Falls Women's Basketball team fell to Winona State tonight 68-59.
The Cougars and Warriors both came out aggressive offensively in the first quarter with WSU taking the first period 17-13. Winona shot 35% from the field and went 4-10 from behind the arc while USF shot 37% from the field and went 1-5 from 3. The Cougars shot the exact same percentage in the 2nd quarter and did not make a 3, but tied the quarter at 12 before heading into the halftime break. Winona State shot 45% from the field and 33% from behind the arc to take a 29-25 lead into the halftime locker room.Â
In the second half the Cougars came out hot shooting 54% from the field but did not make a 3. The Warriors won the quarter by shooting even hotter than the Cougars, winning the quarter 20-16. WSU shot 50% from the field and 75% from behind the arc. The 4th quarter was very tight with WSU taking the final quarter 19-18. Winona shot 50% from the field and 3-10 from behind the arc while USF shot 53% from the field and 1-5 from 3. The Cougars had 30 points in the paint compared to 20 for WSU and Winona had 16 points off of Cougar turnovers.Â
LEADERS
Danielle Minsaas paced USF in scoring with 12 points. Kami Wadsworth added 11 and Ayla Brown chipped in 10 points.Â
Brown and Brecli Honner tied for a game high 8 rebounds. Minsaas added 5 boards as well.
Ayla Brown led USF in assists with 2. Honner played a game high 37 minutesÂ
