USF Women's Basketball Picks Up Big Win Against Minnesota Moorhead

Sioux Falls, S.D. - The University of Sioux Falls Women's Basketball team picked up a big win against Minnesota Moorhead tonight. They defeated the Dragons 66-54.

The Cougars came out of the locker room and took the fight to Moorhead. USF used scorching hot offense and stifling defense to win the first quarter 22-10. The Cougars held MSUM to 26% shooting from the field and 1-5 from the 3 point line while on offense USF shot 61% from the field and went 5-6 from behind the arc. The Cougars cooled off a bit in the 2nd quarter shooting 50% from the field and 42% from the 3 point line. The Dragons continued to struggle on offense shooting 38% from the field and 1-6 from 3 point range. This gave USF the win in the second period 19-13 and the Coo took a 41-23 lead into the halftime locker room. 

Moorhead came out of the halftime break ready to go. They won the 3rd period 20-9 and shot 53% from the field and 3-6 from downtown. The Cougars in this period went 1-3 on 3 point attempts and shot just 25% from the field. The Coo would hold on for the win in the 4th quarter as they won the final period 16-11. USF held the Dragons to 17% shooting from the field and 2-8 from 3 while the Cougars shot 33% from the field and did not make a 3. The Coo had 26 points off of Dragon turnovers compared to MSUM's 5 and Moorhead had 24 points in the paint compared to 10 for USF. 

LEADERS

Kami Wadsworth paced USF in scoring with a game high 22 points. Danielle Minsaas added 20 points and Ayla Brown chipped in 13 as well.

Wadsworth, Brown, and Landree Wilson each had 5 rebounds to lead the Cougars. Madison Wuebben, Tayah Leenderts, and Sidney Swanson each added 3 boards as well.  

Wadsworth also led the Cougars in assists with a career high 4. Brown also had 3 assists. Minsaas led both teams with a career high 6 steals. Ayla Brown played a game high 35 minutes.

The Cougars will be back in action tomorrow! They will host Minot State starting at 3:30PM in the Stewart Center.
