STORM LAKE, IOWA - The University of Sioux Falls Women's Wrestling team delivered one of its strongest performances of the season on Saturday in Storm Lake, Iowa, racking up dominant wins, lightning-fast pins, and breakout showings at the Buena Vista Open. With seven weight classes represented and several athletes competing in their first open of the year, the Cougars collected a powerful mix of experience-building matches and elite victories—setting the stage for a pivotal week ahead.

Top Performers

138 lbs — Johanna Steinlicht

Steinlicht delivered one of the most dominant performances of the entire tournament, finishing a perfect 5–0 with three pins, a technical fall, and a controlled decision victory. She opened her day with a 7–1 win over Simpson's Noa Arnold before exploding for a 54-second fall over Anacarolina Cazares (Iowa Lakes). She followed with a 10–0 technical fall against Central's Esther Belzer, a pin over Southeastern's Evelyn Phillips, and a closing fall in 1:31 against Iowa Central's Destiny Krum. 

207 lbs — Zoe Adam

Adam dominated the heavyweight bracket, going 4–0 with four straight pins while never wrestling a full period. She opened with a lightning-fast 21-second pin over Joy Kral, followed with a one-minute fall against Iowa Central's Harmoni Callins, then added a 4:26 pin of Isabella Sosa before finishing with a composed 3:25 fall over Hawkeye's Alyson Krum. 

138 lbs — Brinley Green-Griffin

Green-Griffin recorded one of the most productive days on the team, wrestling five matches and finishing 4–1 with three technical falls and a decision victory. She opened with a 3:35 tech fall over ICCC's Hannah Brown, added another tech fall over BVU's Savannah Freifeld, and after dropping a bout to Simpson's Paige Gershmel, rebounded with a 2:04 tech fall over UCC's Jessica Williams. She closed her day with a gritty decision over ICCC's Jordan Buffum.

117 lbs — Abigail Wilfong

Wilfong worked her way deep into a tough 117 bracket, finishing the day 4–1 with four straight wins after an opening loss. She started with a bye, then pinned Luther's Nina Yankey in 1:10, outlasted Southeastern's Nina Hamm in a high-scoring 13-13 decision, and capped her run with a 1:08 pin over teammate Hanah Schuster. 

145 lbs — Ciana Grate

Grate continued her strong early-season form with a 4–1 record highlighted by a dominant 11-0 tech fall over Hawkeye's Meya Roberts and a pin over Buena Vista's Paige Baier. She added three forfeit wins while progressing through the bracket and dropped only one match to Wartburg's Izzy Giza.

"We had a pretty solid day. A few of our athletes competed in their first open tournament of the year and found a way to get their hands raised a few times. The open was a great opportunity to continue to build off our performance on Wednesday and carry great momentum into Thursday's tri-dual in Hastings."
