USF Falls to CSU Pueblo in Series Opener

PUEBLO, COLO. – The University of Sioux Falls baseball team struggled to find momentum in the opener of their weekend series, falling 14-1 to CSU Pueblo at Rawlings Field on Saturday.

How It Happened:

The Thunderwolves broke the game open with a nine-run third inning and never looked back, capitalizing on timely hitting and defensive miscues by USF. Sioux Falls' lone run came in the fourth inning when Noah Christenson drew a walk and later scored on a Ryan Gouldin RBI double.

USF finished with seven hits, led by Ben Serie, who went 2-for-3 with a double. Dominic Vogel, Mitch Iliff, Jackson Yeager, Myles Rees, and Gouldin each added a hit. Yeager also swiped a base.

On the mound, Jake Ammann took the loss after allowing nine earned runs over 2.2 innings. Kaleb Klinkhammer, Riley Schilling, and Jack Richeson combined for the final 3.1 innings, with Richeson throwing a scoreless frame.

CSU Pueblo's Nick Williams powered the ThunderWolves' offense, belting two home runs while driving in three runs. The home team tallied 14 hits and took advantage of two USF errors.

Game Notes:

  • Ben Serie recorded his second multi-hit game of the season.

  • USF pitchers combined for eight strikeouts.

  • The Cougars left nine runners on base.
