PUEBLO, COLO. – Sioux Falls (4-4, 0-0 NSIC) split Saturday's doubleheader with CSU Pueblo (8-7, 0-0 RMAC), taking game one 5-4 before falling 5-1 in game two. The Cougars used timely hitting and solid relief pitching to secure the win in the opener but couldn't generate enough offense in the second game.
How It Happened
Game 1 – Sioux Falls 5, CSU Pueblo 4
Sioux Falls jumped out early and held on late to take a 5-4 win in the first game of the doubleheader.
The Cougars struck for three runs in the first two innings, highlighted by Ben Serie's RBI double. CSU Pueblo chipped away at the lead, but USF's bullpen held strong. In the sixth, Jaxon Haase provided key insurance with a two-run home run.
On the mound, Myles Rees delivered 1.2 shutout innings in relief, striking out three. Dylan Immel earned the save despite allowing a solo homer in the seventh.
Game 2 – Sioux Falls 1, CSU Pueblo 5
The Cougars' offense was held in check in game two, mustering just four hits in a 5-1 loss.
USF got off to a promising start when Dominic Vogel led off the game with a solo home run, but that would be the Cougars' only run of the game. Isaac Bonner collected two hits, but the team struggled with timely hitting, leaving five runners on base.
On the mound, Logan Anderson took the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) over four innings. Reid Barnard provided a strong relief effort, tossing two scoreless innings with a strikeout.
