Gouldin’s Big Day Not Enough as USF Falls Short Against MSU Denver

DENVER, COLO. – Sioux Falls (4-7, 0-0 NSIC) lost its Sunday matchup against MSU Denver with a hard-fought 8-6 loss. The Cougars battled throughout, scoring in five different innings, but couldn't overcome an early deficit.

How It Happened

MSU Denver built an early lead with a four-run third inning, capitalizing on a home run and a fielding error to go up 5-1. USF fought back in the fourth when Ryan Gouldin launched a two-run homer to cut the deficit to 5-3.

After a back-and-forth middle innings, the Cougars inched closer with a run in the eighth and ninth, but MSU Denver added insurance to secure the win.

  • Gouldin's Big Day: The USF catcher drove in four runs, including a two-run homer and two sacrifice flies.

  • Consistent Production: Noah Christenson scored twice, stole a base, and added an RBI single.

  • Strong Relief Work: Myles Rees pitched three solid innings, allowing just one run on three hits.
