Baur’s Breakout Start Leads to NSIC Pitcher of the Week Recognition

2/18/2026 8:59:00 AM

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Junior left-hander Brady Baur has been named the NSIC Pitcher of the Week after a dominant performance to close out the Steven Anson Classic in Topeka, Kansas.

Baur was electric on the mound in an 8-1 victory over Washburn Ichabods on Sunday, Feb. 15 at Falley Field, striking out 11 batters over 5.1 innings while allowing just two hits and one unearned run. The outing marked his first start of the season and set the tone for a strong finish to the opening weekend of competition.

The Prior Lake, Minnesota native was in command from the outset, overpowering hitters with swing-and-miss stuff while limiting hard contact throughout his appearance. Baur finished the day with a 0.00 ERA and a 0.75 WHIP, holding Washburn to a .118 batting average in the contest.

His 11 strikeouts were a key factor in the Cougars' 8-1 win, as he consistently worked ahead in counts and neutralized scoring threats. Of the 16 outs he recorded, 11 came via strikeout, showcasing both his ability to miss bats and control the tempo of the game.

Baur is one of several returning arms for the Cougars in 2026 and wasted no time making an impact in his first appearance of the year. His performance not only secured a road victory to close the classic, but also provided early momentum for the pitching staff moving forward.

Head Coach Grant Hieb praised Baur's presence and preparation following the outing.

"It was fun to watch Brady go to work last weekend. He's got an electric fastball that hitters have to respect, and when he's able to locate his off-speed, he's really tough to hit. It's great to see him pick up where he left off last year, throwing the ball well and doing what we've come to expect out of him when he gets it. It's great to see. He's worked his tail off since the day he stepped on campus as a freshman. I love having him on the mound, just knowing he gives us a chance to win every time he touches it."

The Cougars will look to build on their performance as they continue play next week against the U-Mary Marauders in St. George, Kansas. These games were pushed back due to weather, and will be played on Monday, February 23rd and Tuesday, February 24th at 12pm/2pm both days.
