SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – University of Sioux Falls Athletics has announced the resignation of head women's soccer coach Joe DeMay following a record-breaking first season with the Cougars.
DeMay departs USF after guiding the Cougars through one of the most historic seasons in program history. While rewriting the record book, his leadership helped elevate the program's competitiveness within the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while continuing to build a strong culture centered on development, accountability, and success.
DeMay is leaving Sioux Falls to pursue an exciting full-time, professional opportunity with US Soccer in Atlanta, marking the next step in his coaching career at the national level.
"When US Soccer offered me a full-time coaching education role, it was an opportunity I'd only dreamed of when I started coaching. Offers like that don't come often, but it's still the hardest professional decision I've ever made because of the people I'm leaving behind.
The student-athletes in this program are exceptional. They've built something special here, and watching them compete, grow, and push each other to be better has been one of the great privileges of my career. Saying goodbye to them is what makes this so difficult.
I want to thank Jon Hart, Dr. Bradfield, and everyone at USF who trusted me to help reset the standard for Women's Soccer. It provided me the platform to work alongside remarkable young people who deserve every opportunity to succeed. I'm leaving confident that this program—and especially the players who drive it forward—will continue to accomplish great things."
-Head Coach, Joe Demay
During the 2025 season, DeMay led the Cougars to a 6-10-2 overall record, including a 4-2-2 mark at home, showcasing the team's strength at Bob Young Field. USF remained competitive throughout the year, posting a 21 goal total on 197 shots while averaging 10.9 shots per match and placing nearly 48 percent of attempts on goal. The Cougars also generated 69 corner kicks on the season, highlighting their attacking pressure in the offensive third.
The 2025 campaign will be remembered as one of the most prolific in program history, as the Cougars set new program records for most goals in a season, most points in a season, goals in a single game, points in a single game, and points per game in a season. Defensively, USF also established new benchmarks for most shutouts in a season, fewest goals against, fewest shots on goal allowed, and fewest shutouts against, while also finishing second all-time in team assists and shots on goal in a single season.
Individually, the season was highlighted by one of the most decorated performances in program history. Addison Van Zee cemented herself as one of the top players to ever wear a Cougar uniform, setting program records for career goals, single-season goals, and single-season points, while also tying marks for most goals and points in a single game and setting a new record for game-winning goals in a season.
In goal, Morgan Jost delivered a standout season, tying program records for both wins and shutouts by a goalkeeper in a single season while recording 53 saves and a 1.20 goals-against average across 15 starts. Lily Dahler added her name to the record book as well, tying for the most assists in a single season, while Alivia Tindall capped her career ranked third in program history with 5,720 minutes played.
"We are incredibly grateful for the impact Coach DeMay made on our program in such a short time. His knowledge, energy, and commitment elevated our program to new heights. What this team accomplished under his leadership this past season was truly special, and the momentum he helped build will benefit us for years to come. We're proud to support him as he embarks on this elite opportunity with US Soccer and we wish him continued success moving forward."

The Cougars also found success in key moments throughout the season, earning conference victories over Minnesota Crookston (4-0), MSU Moorhead (5-0), Wayne State (2-1), and Jamestown (2-0), while playing to draws against St. Cloud State and Minot State.
