The University of Sioux Falls women's soccer team came up just short against Minot State University falling by a score of 2-1.
The first half would be a defensive showcase as senior Corrin Cook would lockdown the Beavers offense, recording three saves in the first period.
The Cougars and Beavers would head into the half with a tie, and the defensive prowess continued for both teams early in the second half. In the 69th minute, the Beavers Kayla Schlittenhart would head in a corner kick from teammate Zoe Fisher to give Minot State a 1-0 lead.
Later in the 75th minute, Minot State's Chloe Melton would score a goal giving the Beavers a two goal cushion.
The Cougars wouldn't go away quietly as they would add a goal of their own in the 83rd minute. USF's Maria Gonzalez would rebound a Tionne Webb free kick and put it in the back of the net for the Cougars.
USF would have several opportunities in the final minutes of the game, but would be unable to convert them into goals as they would fall to the Beavers 2-1.
USF's Corrin Cook recorded five saves for the Cougars in 90 minutes of action.
The Cougars Maria Gonzalez would score the lone goal for the Cougars, also tallying three shots for USF.
The Cougars will play next on Saturday, September 28 at 11 a.m. at the USF Sports Complex against NSIC foe Minnesota Duluth.
