The University of Sioux Falls women's soccer team relied on a strong defensive effort in a 0-0 tie against NSIC foe St. Cloud State on Sunday.
The Cougars were on the attack early in the game as they would record three shots in the first ten minutes of action. The best look came in the 4th minute of the match when Caitlin Crouse took a shot that was saved by St. Cloud State's Brittany Plombon.
USF also received a strong performance from goalkeeper Corrin Cook. Cook recorded eight saves for the Cougars in the match which included three first half saves.
The Cougars and Huskies would head into the half with a 0-0 tie as both teams struggled to finish opportunities on the offensive side of the ball.
USF's strong defensive effort continued in the second period as they held the Huskies to only one shot on goal. The match would head into overtime after both teams were held scoreless in the first 90 minutes of action.
The Huskies were on the attack in the first period as they had the wind at their back. They recorded four shots on goals in the first extra period, but Corrin Cook proved herself in the goal by recording four saves in the overtime period. The Cougars would not record a shot in the first overtime period.
In the second overtime period, USF and SCSU would both have opportunities to score in the final minutes of the match but came up just short. The Huskies had a late goal called off after a player was called offside. In the 109th minute of the match, USF's Tionne Webb had a breakaway shot at a goal, but her attempt went wide right ending the game in a 0-0 tie.
The Cougars will compete again on the road Saturday, October 5 against Minnesota Crookston. The game is set to begin at 11 a.m.
