SIOUX FALLS – The University of Sioux Falls Swimming Team (8-0) continues to set dual meet records. In competition with city rival Augustana, Northern State and U-Mary, the Cougars won six dual competitions on Saturday as it hosted two separate quad meets scored as duals at the Midco Aquatic Center.
As a result, USF has captured a school-record 18 straight dual wins which dates back to the a loss to DI Nebraska-Omaha in December, 2018. And, a dual with Nebraska-Omaha is next on the schedule for the Cougars, who travel to Omaha, Neb., on Jan. 23.
But for the here and now, the performance today was perfect in result.
In the first quad meet, USF recorded dual wins of 86-80 over U-Mary, despite a disqualification in a relay, as well as 128-39 over Northern State and 95-72 over Augustana. In the second quad, USF improved with wins of 102-43 over Augustana, 112-33 over Northern State and 86-61 against Mary.

Chris Hamstra was pleased with the effort from his squad, who battled with significant effort through a long weekend.
"It was a long and hard weekend of racing for our team," said Hamstra, who team is now a combined 21-0 against NSU, Augustana and Mary all-time. "But I felt like we really started to show our strength at the end of the last quad. We will continue to train hard and focus on getting better every day," he said.

Quad 1 – USF wins three events
In the first event of the quad, the 400 medley relay, USF took home first (3:59.40) with the squad led by junior
Elizabeth Spaans, and including senior
Chantal Kasch, sophomore
Valerie Childs, and senior
Jenna Krahn. The Cougars also captured third place (4:08.08) with the team of freshman
Ilinde du Plessis, sophomores
Abigail Ford and
Makenzy Kennedy, and senior
Tori Bailey. The team of freshman
Jaidyn Nelson, sophomore
Burke Henderson, senior
Keelin O'Connor, and sophomore
Samantha Mullvain took home seventh place (4:26.13).
In the 200 free, the Cougars had an impressive showing by freshman
Kaylee Tringali who grabbed third place with a time of 2:01.34, while senior
Evelyn VanDeMark took home fourth place (2:01.84). Freshman
Domenica Solano finished in sixth place (2:04.75), and
Samantha Mullvain finished strong for the Cougars in 15th place (2:22.19).
In the 50 free, Krahn grabbed first place with a time of 24:58, while sophomore
Ursula Demarquet came up in third (24:95). Bailey landed in 10th place (26.29) and
Giulia Fazza Marcon grabbed 11th place (26.69).
In the 400 IM, freshman
Paulina Ruelas continued to shine by grabbing third place (4:54.70) and senior
Aleah Rohde finished in eighth (5:11.52).
In the 100 fly, four more Cougars grabbed spots. In second place was Childs, with a time of 59.19, while Demarquet grabbed fifth place (1:01.89). Tringali was sixth in 1:02.05, and O'Connor finished 14th place (1:06.85).
USF took the top two spots in the 200 back Solano taking home first place with a time of 2:11.95, and Spaans earning second place (2:12.36). Rohde also finished in eighth (2:20.57).
In the 500 free, VanDeMark took home third place for the Cougars, with a time of 5:29.55.
Ilinde du Plessis was fourth (5:29.56), just one-hundred of a second behind. Marcon finished ninth (5:47.14).
In the 200 breaststroke, Kasch took home second place (2:25.72) with Ford in fourth (2:33.02) and Ruelas, took 5th (2:35.12).
In the final event of the quad, the 200 free relay, the Cougars had two teams swim well. Taking third place, with a time of 1:44.32, was the squad led by Tringali, Marcon, Saddoris, and Bailey. The next group finished in eighth, led by
Ashley Hartung, Henderson, Nelson, and Mullvain.
Quad Two – USF claims two relay and two individual wins
In the second quad of the day, the USF Swimming Team had another impressive showing with three more dual wins.
In the first event of this quad, the 200 medley relay, the Cougars had three teams place, including one team grabbing the first place prize. The winning team was led by Solano, Kasch, Childs, and Krahn in 1:49.17. du Plessis, Ruelas, Kennedy, and Demarquet comprised the fifth place team (1:54.29), while Rohde, Saddoris, O'Connor, and Hartung placed 8th (1:58.47).
In the 1000 free, Spaans was the only Cougar to compete, grabbing fourth place with a time of 10:58.7.
In the 100 IM, Solano grabbed second place (1:02.51), with Kennedy in third (1:03.56) and O'Connor 10th (1:07.08).
In the 200 butterfly, Childs continued to excel in the medium sprints by finishing second (2:12.53) with Ruelas in third (2:14.32) and VanDeMark, sixth, 2:22.40.
In the 100 free, USF was led by Krahn who took second (53.81); with Demarquet, fifth (56.41); Bailey, seventh (57.04); and Marcon, 10th (57.04).
In the 100 backstroke, Solano won her second individual title of the day in 59.38. She just edged out Spaans, who clocked in at 59.51. du Plessis grabbed third place (1:01.72) in the race with Rohde finishing seventh (1:04.38).
Kasch took home the 100 breast title for third time this year in 1:06.08. In the same race, Ford came in third (1:10.07), while
Burke Henderson finished seventh (1:11.39); Saddoris, eighth (1:13.51); and Mullvain, 14th (1:19.62).
In the final event of the day, the 800 free relay, the Cougars dominated with three of the top six relay places. The title-winning team included Spaans, VanDeMark, Krahn, and Childs who clocked in at 7:59.45. The team of Demarquet, du Plessis, Ruelas, and Tringali took home third (8:12.60) while Ford, Kasch, Rohde, and Marcon was sixth (8:35.49).
