NEW ORLEANS – For the eighth straight year, the University of Sioux Falls Cross Country Program was awarded team and individual honors for academic success by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (
USTFCCCA) for the 2021 season.
USF, led by Director of Track and Field/Cross Country
Doug Petersen, earned men's and women's All-Academic team awards while seven student-athletes were honored individually.
To be honored as an All-Academic team, the program must maintain a 3.25 cumulative grade point average. Student-athletes honored must have a 3.25 GPA and achieved an automatic-or provisional qualifying mark (individual or relay event) for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The women's squad was honored for its cumulative GPA of 3.671, which was in the top 30 (29
th) best of the 111 women's teams honored. As for the men's team, it was among 98 teams and ranked 13
th with its 3.52 GPA.
To be honored individually by the
USTFCCCA, a student-athlete must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and record an NCAA qualifying mark during their season of competition.
Of the 275 honorees in DII, four represented USF's men's team,
including David Ecker, Eau Claire, WIsc.; Jakob Hanna of Brandon, S.D.; Micade Shumway of Williston, N.D.; and Aaron Voigt of Gregory, S.D. The women's team has three members of the 357 honored from 104 schools nationally. They included Morgan Gehl of Fulda, Minn; Khot Juac of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and Tianna Voigt of Pelican Rapids, Minn.
The USF Track and Field/Cross Country Program has a combined five national champions, 56 All-Americans, 370 Academic All-NSIC performers, 438 All-NSIC honorees and three Elite 90 Award recipients.
