BURNSVILLE, Minn. – The University of Sioux Falls'Â
David Ecker was voted by the league coaches as the winner of the NSIC Outstanding Senior of the Year Award. A native of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Ecker is a senior double majoring in biology & psychology while holding a 3.97 cumulative grade point average.
The "NSIC Outstanding Senior of the Year Award" is presented to a NSIC Men's Indoor Track & Field student-athlete who participates at their institution for four years and is academically superior while making a positive contribution to their team and the University. The NSIC Outstanding Senior of the Year award was initiated in 2020-21 to honor an outstanding senior that exemplifies the attributes of the model NSIC student-athlete.
On the track, Ecker ranks fourth all-time at USF in the indoor 5,000m, sixth in the 3000m, and eighth in the mile. He is the USF record holder in the 3000m steeplechase and posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in 2022. At the 2023 NSIC Indoor Championships, Ecker finished fourth in the 5000m run with a time of 15:05.90 and fourth in the 3000m with a time of 8:31.59.Â
In the classroom, Ecker was awarded Third Team Academic All-American selected by CoSIDA in 2020-21. He was awarded the NSIC Elite 18 Award for Men's Outdoor Track & Field in 2022 and is a NSIC Myles Brand Award winner. Â
In the community, Ecker has done volunteer work with the Sioux Falls Marathon as well as the Sioux Falls Skeddle Half-Marathon. He has been a three year member of the USF SAAC and served as President of the organization during the 2021-22 school year.
"Dave is one of the hardest working runners I have coached. His dedication and commitment to his running is evident with his times and performances. He is a team leader and mentor to the runners on our team. The leadership skills Dave has shown are a huge reason for the team success we have had during his time at USF," said Head Coach
Doug Petersen.
