INDIANAPOLIS– Sophomore Emily Swanson has advanced to the 2023 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field National Championship Meet held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. Swanson will be competing in both the pentathlon and high jump at the meet, which will take place March 10-11 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.Â
Swanson has already set the USF Pentathlon record twice this year. The first time was at the Bearcat Open on February 3rd when she scored 3,752 points. In high jump Swanson recorded a career best 1.70 meter clearance also at the Bearcat Open. Just a few weeks later, Swanson broke her own pentathlon record at the NSIC Championship Meet with a score of 3,771 and a 2nd place finish. At the conference meet, Swanson placed 1st in the 60 meter hurdles with a career best time of 8.84. In the high jump she cleared 1.68 meters for a 2nd place finish. In the shot put, Swanson threw for a career best of 11.58 meters and another 2nd place finish. In long jump she also set a new PR with a jump of 5.30 meters, finishing 3rd. In the 800 meter race, Swanson finished 3rd with a time of 2:27.81. On TFRRS, Swanson is currently ranked 9th in the country for DII women's pentathlon and 15th for women's high jump.Â
The NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee has announced the participants for the 2023 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships. A total of 540 participants, 270 men and 270 women, will compete in the championships. Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching a provisional standard established for each event.
