MARYVILLE – The USF Track & Field team drove south to Northwest Missouri State to compete in the Bearcat Open. The meet began Thursday afternoon, and runs through Saturday evening. Here are the highlights from day two in the Hughes Fieldhouse. 

TRACK & FIELD EVENTS

• Emily Swanson was dominant in the women's pentathlon, taking 1st place overall, and breaking the USF school record with 3,752 points. With her score, Swanson also currently holds the 8th highest score in DII. In the high jump she placed 1st with a jump of 1.70 meters, giving herself a national mark. Swanson placed 2nd in the shot put with a throw of 11.32 meters. She placed 4th in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.95. She placed 3rd in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:22.18. In the long jump she took 7th with a jump of 5.03 meters. 

• In the women's high jump Swanson took 1st with a jump of 1.62 meters. Close behind was Abbi Webb with a jump of 1.57 meters and a 4th place finish. Avery Bartunek took 6th, also with a jump of 1.57 meters. 

• Freshman Grace Gioffredi finished 8th in the Women 60 Meter Dash Qualifying Rounds with a time of 8.03. She will compete in the semifinals tomorrow.
