CLERMONT – The Cougars split their series against Saginaw Valley State and Ferris State today, falling to SVSU 7-5 and picking up a, 4-2, win over FSU.
Sioux Falls moves to 8-9 on the season.
GAME ONE – SAGINAW VALLEY STATE
· Saginaw Valley jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, but the Cougars battled back to add three in the third and one in the fourth to tie it up at four apiece.
· The Cougars were able to battle until the end with the Cardinals, but came up short.
· Sioux Falls produced five runs on seven hits led by Rylie Jones, Kylie Madrid and Damaris Cuevas.
· USFs pitching staff combined for five strikeouts while giving up just one walk.
GAME TWO – FERRIS STATE
· The Bulldogs scored first, but the Cougars got it back and then some when they added three runs of their own in the top of the third.
· Lexie Swift went 4-for-4 at the plate during today's matchup and brought in two RBIs after a single to center.
· USF forced four runs against FSU off of 11 hits and were led by Jones, Swift and Madrid at the plate.
· Van Der Zwaag continued her winning ways on the mound giving up just one walk and seven hits. With a strong defense behind her, Van Der Zwaag moves to 5-3 on the season and 4-0 throughout the week.
UP NEXT
The Cougars will be back in action tomorrow as they round out their time at The Spring Games against Lewis University and Edinboro University.
