CLERMONT – The Cougars split their final series of the week against Lewis University and Edinboro. USF fell, 9-0, in their game against Lewis but battled back to defeat Edinboro 5-0 as Kait Van Der Zwaag pitched her first full game, no hitter of the season.
Sioux Falls moves to 9-10 on the season following their 10 game road series in Florida.
GAME ONE – LEWIS
· The Cougars held the Flyers to just one run before giving up four runs in the fifth and another four in the sixth.
· Reese Holzhueter and Lexie Swift were the only hits for USF in game one each going 2-for-1 at the plate.
· Hanna Cress threw for 4.2 innings today with two strikeouts and two walks.
GAME TWO – EDINBORO
· The Cougars bounced back and quickly jumped on top of the Fighting Scots picking up their first run when Van Der Zwaag drove one deep over the center field fence.
· Kennedy Thomas drove in Megan Lawson off a double to center field followed by a base hit by Swift that drove in Taryn Wagner after a Fighting Scot fielding error.
· Sioux Falls tacked on two more runs in the seventh when Danielle Klenke came in to pinch hit and was scored off a double by Van Der Zwaag. Emma Barta came in to pinch run for Van Der Zwaag and scored after a stolen base and a sacrifice fly by Thomas.
· Van Der Zwaag pitched a 7.0 inning no hitter in game two, throwing 61 pitches and leaving her defense to do the work behind her.
UP NEXT
The Cougars will be back in next weekend as they head to Joplin, Missouri to take part in the MIAA/NSIC Crossover.
