USF Track & Field Closes SDSU Jim Emmerich Alumni Meet with Four National Provisional Marks

Hiatt sets third school record of the season

BROOKINGS, S.D. - The USF track and field team put up an impressive performance at the USD Alumni Meet today. Competing against strong NCAA DI programs, the Cougars demonstrated their talent and grit across multiple events with two broken record performances and three national provisional marks. 

Women's Highlights 

  • Emily Swanson placed third in the 60-meter hurdles final with a time of 8.82 seconds for a national provisional mark and a season best performance. Teammate Kendall Anderson followed behind in fifth place at 8.89 seconds. 

  • Tamia Horton was amongst the top four in the 60m dash crossing the line at 7.70 seconds. 

  • In the pole vault, McKenna Comstock led Sioux Falls with a third-place finish and a jump of 3.65m (11' 11.75"). 

  • Abbi Webb and Kendra King were neck and neck in the long jump. Webb finished seventh with a jump of 5.21m (17'1.25") while King finished eighth with a jump of 5.18m (17'0"). 

  • Delanie Van Driel and Kayla Van Osdel topped the shot put for the Cougars while Van Driel finished fifth with a career best throw of 13.35m (43'9.75") and Van Osdel in sixth at 13.33m (43'8.75"). 

  • Ella Steussy placed second in the triple jump at 11.04m (36'2.75). 

  • Kamry Lindsey finished third in the weight throw with a toss of 18.58m (60'11.5") and her second national provisional mark of the season. 

Men's Highlights 

  • In the 400-meter run, Brandon Stark crossed the finish line with a personal best time of 49.11 and a fourth-place finish. 

  • Ethan Schwankl was the top runner for USF in the 600m with a fifth-place finish with a time of 1:24.58. 

  • Benjamin Morrison recorded a season best in the mile with a time of 4:16.69 and a fifth-place finish. 

  • In the field events, Tyler Hiatt had another standout weekend with a national provisional mark in both the shot put and weight throw. Hiatt finished second in the shot put with a toss of 17.94m (58'10.25") and third in the weight throw at 19.30m (63' 4"). Hiatt set yet another school record in the weight throw and sits 11th in the country in that event. 

  • Jay Rhodes leaped to fifth place in the long jump at 6.37m (20'10.75"). 

  • Freshman, Zarek Khan, led the pole vaulters with a jump of 4.40m (14'5.25") and a third-place finish.

USF Track & Field will head to the Mark Schuck Open & Multi at Minnesota State next weekend in Mankato, Minnesota to compete in the two day event.
