OWASSO, OKLA. – The University of Sioux Falls Men's Golf team wrapped up play at the Hillcat Classic, finishing in eighth place with a total team score of 924 (+72) at Bailey Ranch Golf Club. The Cougars started strong with a 298 (+14) in round one but struggled in the second round with a 318 (+34). They rebounded in round three with a 308 (+24) despite challenging conditions.

Tournament Recap 

USF showed flashes of strong play, particularly in the opening round, where several players capitalized on early birdie opportunities. However, momentum faded late Monday as the second round stretched into the evening. The Cougars responded well in the final round, posting a more competitive score despite strong winds and rising temperatures on Tuesday. 

"The team started out Round 1 strong with some early birdies," said Coach JJ Cooney. "We started to lose our momentum heading into the second round Monday evening. The team responded with a better score in Round 3 with some heavier winds and hot conditions. All six golfers contributed to the team score, coming off consistent play from Mason. We look forward to our next opportunity to play in conference teams."

Mason Weeks led the Cougars with a 14th-place finish (+4, 217), displaying the most consistent performance for USF. His rounds of 70 (-1), 77 (+6), and 70 (-1) highlighted his ability to navigate the course effectively. Weeks also tallied a team-high nine birdies, proving to be a steady presence throughout the tournament. 

Jimmy Clark placed 43rd at +25, while Deven Sehr and Mats Lund tied for 44th. Riley Larson closed with an 81 (+10) in round three to place 47th.
