Power Surge: USF Slugs Eight Homers to Take Down Minnesota Crookston

ST. GEORGE, KAN. – Sioux Falls (5-14, 1-4 NSIC) made history on Friday, blasting a program-record eight home runs en route to a 13-9 victory over Minnesota Crookston. The Cougars' offense erupted for 12 hits, with five different players going deep in a power-packed performance. 


How It Happened 

Sioux Falls wasted no time setting the tone, hitting back-to-back home runs in the first inning. Dominic Vogel launched a solo shot to center, and Ben Serie followed with a deep drive to left, giving USF an early 2-0 lead. 

The power surge continued in the second, as Isaac Bonner belted a solo home run to left, extending the lead to 3-0. In the third, Mitch Iliff joined the home run party with a towering blast to center, making it 4-0 Cougars. 

Minnesota Crookston responded in the fourth with a two-run homer from Aaron Wensloff, cutting the deficit to 4-2. The Cougars answered in the bottom of the fourth, as Bonner and William Edwards hit back-to-back home runs to extend the lead to 6-2. The Golden Eagles used a 4-run fifth inning to tie the game before taking a 9-6 lead in the 7th with two homeruns in the inning.  

Down but not out, the Cougars exploded in the bottom of the seventh. Edwards led off with a walk, followed by a hit-by-pitch for Nolan Drossel. Vogel then reached on an error, allowing both runners to score and cutting the deficit to 9-8. With two outs, Iliff crushed his second home run of the game—a two-run shot to center—giving USF a 10-9 lead. 

In the eighth, Edwards delivered the knockout punch, crushing his second home run of the day, a two-run blast to left to extend the lead to 12-9. Vogel capped off the scoring with a sacrifice fly, bringing home Nolan Drossel for the final 13-9 margin. 

On the mound, Jace Coleman (1-1) earned the win with 1.2 scoreless innings, striking out four while allowing no hits. Garrett Oswald shut the door in the ninth, working around three walks to secure the victory.
