Canton, Salazar Lead USF at Prestigious Roy Griak Invitational

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. – The University of Sioux Falls cross country teams lined up against some of the best regional competition at the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational on Friday at Les Bolstad Golf Course. The Cougar men raced first at 11:30 a.m. and collected a 13th place finish in the field of 21 teams, followed by the women at 12:15 p.m. and their 15th place finish out of 24 competitors.

Men's Race

The Cougar men showed depth and balance in the Jo Rider Men's Maroon Race (Division II & III), with senior leadership setting the tone. Senior Bryson Canton paced USF with a 42nd-place finish in the 270-plus runner field, crossing in 27:47.6. He was closely followed by sophomore Camden Janiszeski, who ran a steady race to place 47th in 27:57.7. Senior Parker Hahn provided another veteran presence as the Cougars' third scorer, finishing 116th at 29:00.1.

Freshman Owen Janiszeski (125th, 29:04.3) and fellow newcomer Hunter Hart (138th, 29:14.2) rounded out USF's top five, giving the Cougars two underclassmen among their scoring group. Junior Jace Cofer (154th, 29:30.0) and junior Chase Henderson (174th, 29:59.7) added depth to the lineup.

Women's Race

On the women's side, senior Mallory Salazar once again led the charge for the Cougars in the Suzy Wilson Women's Maroon Race, placing 34th overall with a time of 24:27.7. Her top-40 finish was the highlight of the day for USF, as she competed strong in a field of more than 260 runners.

Behind her, seniors Faith Rustad and Chloe Aanenson ran stride for stride to finish 121st and 122nd in matching times of 26:20.3 and 26:20.8. Senior Lilly McCone (146th, 26:48.0) and senior Emma Thomas (155th, 27:01.6) rounded out the scoring lineup, giving the Cougars a veteran-heavy top five.

Sophomore Cameen McFarquhar also turned in a bright spot with a personal-best time of 27:26.4, while senior Eva Studt and sophomore Olivia Babler finished just ahead of her in 27:21.9 and 27:21.3, respectively, to keep the pack tight.
