BURNSVILLE, Minn. – University of Sioux Falls senior sprinter Tamia Horton has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Horton earned the honor following a standout performance at the Minnesota State Open, where she delivered one of the top sprint performances in NCAA Division II this season.
The Maplewood, Minnesota native won the 100-meter dash with a program- and meet-record time of 11.41, a mark that currently ranks fifth in Division II. Her performance led a strong showing for the Cougars and highlighted a record-setting day for the program.
"We're very proud of what Tamia has done so far this season," said Head Coach Eric Chilson. "She shows consistent growth and her work ethic is something to be admired!"
In addition to her individual title, Horton also contributed to the women's 4x100-meter relay team, anchoring the group to a second-place finish with a time of 47.58.
Horton continues to build on an already decorated career, adding another conference honor to her résumé while solidifying her position as one of the top sprinters in the NSIC and across Division II.
