Tristan Zawadzki, who set a meet record in the pole vault at the St. Johns Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 9), was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week, according to the league announcement today.
Â
A redshirt-junior exercise science major from San Diego, Calif., Zawadzki highlighted the day for USF at the St. Johns Invitational on Saturday with a meet record first place result of 5 meters (16' 4.75 feet). This height was an NCAA provisional mark and ranks 15th in the NCAA DII standings.
Â
This is Zawadzki's first NSIC weekly honor and USF's third in the 2018-19 indoor track and field season.
Â
Zawadzki has produced an impressive start to the indoor season where he has posted the top overall jump in five of his first six meets. He won the men's pole vault with an NCAA DII provisional height of 4.73 meters (15' 6.25") at the MSU Ted Nelson Invite last weekend (Feb. 2). USF teammate
Connor DeJong was second with the same provisional height of 4.73 meters (15' 6.25"), but since Zawadzki jumped that height with less misses, he took first. Zawadzki also won the vault at the MSU Mark Schuck Invite at 4.58 meters (15-0.25 feet), the MSU Invite (4.73 meters – 15-6.25 feet), as well as the SDSU DII Invite (4.58 meters) where DeJong trailed just behind Zawadzki in second place with a finals jump of 4.58 meters. At the SDSU Holiday Invite, Zawadzki posted a jump of 4.60 meters (15-01 feet), which was good for an eighth-place finish.
Â
The USF men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Team will next send split squads to the SDSU Last Chance Meet, as well as the MSU Maverick Invitational, which will both take place on Friday, Feb. 15.
