SPEARFISH, S.D.—Highlighted by an NCAA DII provisional mark in the men's DMR, the University of Sioux Falls Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams had a number of strong performances with team members competing at both the Black Hills State Stinger Invitational and the SDSU Last Chance Meet on Friday.
Stinger Invitational- DMR takes first
USF men's distance medley relay of
Zach Lundberg,
Trey Furgeson,
Billy Beseman and
Mason Phillips posted the top overall time at the Stinger Invite with a 10:01.83 finish. With a conversion time of 9:48.18, the USF relay team put together an NCAA provisional time which is the fifth fastest in NCAA DII. USF's second team of
Jase Kraft,
Jayden Slaba,
Logan Hansen and
Steven Brown took seventh in 10:27.32 which converts to 10:13.09.
SDSU Last Chance Highlights
USF sophomore
Taryn Ceglowski won the women's one-mile run title in 5:05.87. Ceglowski defeated the field by over four seconds.
Kiara Mattern won the women's 1,000-meter run after recording a time of 3:08.00. USF then took fourth through seventh place with
Sadie Thompson grabbing fourth (3:11.45), Mariah Streed in fifth (3:13.56),
Sarina Lindell in sixth (3:13.78) and
Mattisen Kelley wrapping up the point scorers in seventh (3:16.11).
In the women's shot put, sophomore
Emma Hertz had an NCAA provisional throw and new USF record distance of 14.83 meters (48' 8"), which was also a personal best as she claimed the title. Hertz beat the second place thrower, SMSU's Rebecca Manteuffel (13.81 meters, 45' 3.75"), by over three feet. USF's
Bailey Rudebusch was seventh with a final throw of 13.03 (42' 9").
Hertz also posted a seventh place finish in the women's weight throw at 16.53 meters (54' 2.75").
USF sophomore
Mercy Oyadare posted a third place finish in the women's 60-meter dash with a 7.99 clip. She also took third in the women's 200-meter dash (26.52) and was just edged out by Augustana sprinter Mariah Beckius (26.33).
Freshman pole vaulter
Carolyn Groeger continued her strong first year at USF with a third place finish and a vault of 3.23 meters (10' 7"). Senior
Brenna Schmidt was sixth with a vault of 3.08 meters (10' 1.25").
Freshman
Zoe Cigard was fifth in the women's 600-meter dash with a 1:43.93 clocking. Cigard was just edged out by Wayne State runner Marin Jetensky finished in 1:42.66.
Junior Pole Vaulter
Tristan Zawadzki, who earlier this week won the NSIC Men's Field Athlete of the Week honor, recorded a second-place vault of 4.87 meters (15' 11.75"). Teammate
Connor DeJong was third after vaulting 4.72 meters (15' 5.75").
USF runner
Dan Armstrong claimed a third place in the men's 1,000-meter run (2:35.76) and just was edged out by Augustana's Endre Wigaard (2:33.58) for second. USF's
Aaron Voigt was fifth in 2:37.37 and
David Ecker, sixth in 2:37.70.
Ecker also led USF in the men's one-mile run with a fourth place showing of 4:30.65.
Seth Overholt took fifth with a 4:46.73 result.
USF distance runner Mahamed Shodo was fourth in the men's 3,000-meter run (9:06.30), while teammate
Josh Liester was fifth (9:09.36).
