Spearfish, S.D. — The University of Sioux Falls Indoor Track and Field Team captured four individual event victories to highlight the Saturday portion of the Stinger Invitational hosted by Black Hills State.
Head Coach
Doug Petersen was pleased with the team's performance over the weekend. "Our meet at BHSU was a great way to finish out the regular season. We had some good efforts on track and had many good things happen in the field events." Petersen goes on to say, "Our athletes will use these efforts to carry them into the NSIC Indoor Championships."
Kanya Henderson won the women's 60-meter dash in 7.85. She just edged out Black Hills State sprinter Shayna Soderstrom, who recorded a second place time of 7.89.
Sophomore
Chloe Peterson recorded a win in the women's long jump with a 5.57-meter (18' 3.25") result. Peterson beat runner-up jumper Bailey Bard from Rocky Mountain (4.71-meters, 15' 5.25") by almost three feet.
USF jumper
Allison Laibach competed in the women's triple jump and hit a first place mark of 11.17-meters (36' 7. 75").
In the women's high jump, USF freshman
Taylor Stoltz claimed second with jump of 1.57-meters (5' 1.75").
Senior
Steven Brown highlighted the day for the men's team as he took first in the men's 3,000-meter run with an NCAA DII provisional time of 8:34.33, which converts to 8:21.03. Brown's a Brown performance was also a season-best as he ranks 30th in DII in the 3K. Senior All-American
Mason Phillips finished third (8:47.78), while teammate
Zach Lundberg was seventh (9:03.98).
Freshman
Casey Hackett posted a second place finish in the men's long jump with a distance of 6.50-meters (21' 4.00").
Joseph Kirkebak took third in the men's high jump (1.89- meters, 6' 2.25"), while senior
Jase Kraft was sixth in the men's one mile run with a 4:43.08 clip to wrap up the USF point scorers.
USF will now gear up for the NSIC Indoor Championships on Feb. 22-23 hosted by Minnesota State in Mankato, Minn.
