Sarah Troescher,
Mercy Oyadare and
Chloe Peterson took first in their event to highlight USF's day at the Wildcat Classic. Both USF Men's and Women's Team opened their outdoor season at the Wildcat Classic on Saturday. Â Â Â Â Â
Women's team highlights
The USF women's 4X100 relay team claimed first after posting a 48.67 clocking on Saturday afternoon. The team of Henderson, Troescher, Oyadare and Peterson edged out the second place squad from the University of Jamestown (51.18) by almost three seconds. The Dordt 'A' relay team took third (51.69), while the Dordt 'B' team was fourth (51.74).
Peterson, a sophomore from Elizabeth, Colo., also won the women's long jump with a final jump of 5.44 meters (17-10.25). Peterson beat the second-place jumper, University of South Dakota's Lindsay Hale by over six inches (5.09 meters, 17-04.00).
Junior
Emma Hertz won a title in the women's discus with a 47.74 meter (156-07) showing where she beat Wayne State thrower Kenzie Sullivan (43.65 meters, 143-02) by over 13 feet.
Jaimie McNamee posted a third-place result of 42.53 meters (139-06) and
Kayla Andersen rounded out the top-10 with a 38.83 meter (127-05) throw. Hertz also took sixth in the shot put (13.20 meters, 43-03.75).
Miranda Phipps provided a fourth place throw in the women's javelin with a distance of 34.80 meters (114-02).
Bailey Rudebusch took seventh with a 33.11 meter (108-07) throw.
Senior
Brenna Schmidt took third in the women's pole vault with a height of 3.05 meters (10-00.00).
In her first collegiate outdoor competition, USF freshman
Taylor Stoltz claimed seventh in the women's high jump with a 1.47 meter (4-09.75) jump.Â
Men's team highlights
Senior
Connor DeJong and junior
Tristan Zawadzki tied for first place in the men's pole vault with a final height of 4.70 meters (15-05.00). They bested the third overall finisher, Braedon Gumke from the University of Jamestown, by almost an entire foot (4.40 meters, 14-05.25). Jake Person took seventh with a jump of 3.95 meters (12-11.50).
Patrick Hagan posted a trio of top-10 results on the day in the javelin throw (fifth; 44.52 meter, 146-01), the hammer throw (eighth; 49.15 meter, 161-03) and shot put (ninth; 14.15 meters, 46-05.25).
Junior
Christian Gruschin took fourth in the men's discus with a throw of 47.54 meters (156-00). Gruschin just beat out teammate
Chandler Nelson, who posted a distance of 47.47 meters (155-09).
Sophomore
Cooper Wood gained a pair of top-10 finishes as he was eighth in the men's triple jump with a final jump of 12.80 meters (42-00.00), and ninth in the men's long jump recording a distance of 6.17 meters (20-03.00).Â
USF men's and women's outdoor track and field teams will next compete in the Buena Vista Outdoor Invitational on March 30.
