NEW ORLEANS – The University of Sioux Falls Track & Field Team has had six student-athletes recognized as all-region performers by the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Zach Lundberg,
Mason Phillips,
Tristan Zawadzki,
Billy Beseman,
Taryn Ceglowski, and
Emma Hertz combined for seven all-region honors with five making repeat appearances on the USTFCCCA list. For the second consecutive season, USF has placed multiple men and women on the USTFCCCA All-Region list under second-year Director of Track & Field
Doug Petersen.
To earn All-Region honors, individuals muse post a mark or time that ranks in the top five of his or her respective region upon the completion of the regular season. Relay times are also included, with the members of the top three relays in each region earning the honor. Members of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, Sioux Falls is in the NCAA Central Region along with institutions of the Great American Conference and Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
After breaking school records in the women's discus and shot put, sophomore
Emma Hertz's has earned all-region honors for a second straight year. She earned her third all-region outdoor honor by being named in both the shot put and discus this year. Hertz, who was a second team NCAA DII Indoor All-American in March, will compete in both events at the NCAA DII Championships in Kingsville, Texas, on May 23-25. Lundberg, Phillips and Zawadzki will also compete at nationals.
Hertz ranks ninth in DII in the discus with her school record of 51.57 meters (169-02). On May 1, 2019, she cracked the school record with that 51.57M – 169 foot two inches toss that was seven feet better than her previous mark. She ranks 11
th in the discus with a school record throw of 15.56 meters or 51 feet 7 ¾ inches at the USF Twilight on April 23, 2019.
Sophomore
Taryn Ceglowski picked up her second straight all-region honor in the 1,500 meters. She placed sixth with a clocking of 4:40.04 at the NSIC Championship.
Junior pole vaulter
Tristan Zawadzki made all-region after he had a DII qualifying mark of 5.16 meters (16-11), which he set at the South Dakota Challenge on April 6.
Zawadzki, who ranks ninth in DII with his vault, swept the
NSIC Indoor and Outdoor pole vault titles.

Billy Beseman, who was second at the NSIC Championship in the 800 (1:56.17), was selected All-Region in the 1,500-meters as he clocked a career-best 3:50.29 at the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 19.
Junior
Zach Lundberg earned all-region for a second straight year. He has set a school record in the 1,500 meters and is ranked 11
th in DII with a clocking of 3:46.64 at the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 17.
Lundberg earned second team outdoor All-America in 2018 after breaking the school record in the 1,500 meters at the DII nationals in Charlotte, NC. He was also part of the record-breaking distance medley relay which earned first team All-America honors with a fourth-place finish.
Junior
Mason Phillips, who captured the 800 meter title at the
NSIC Championship, qualified for DII nationals and earned all-region honors in the 1,500 meters with a clocking of 3:47.98 at the Drake Relays on April 24. He ranks 15th in DII with nationals just ahead next week. Phillips, who has earned six combined All-American honors in cross country and track and field, has a combined nine
NSIC Weekly Athlete of the Week honors in track and field and cross country. In his career at USF, he has 28 cross country or track and field titles (relay or individual), including nine in 2018-19, and 21 second place finishes with eight in 2018-19. As such, he has placed first or second 49 times at USF. Last spring (2017-18 year), he was named USF's Male Athlete of the Year.
