USF Cross Country Team conclude regular season with solid efforts at the Lewis Crossover & Defender Invite

ROMEOVILLE, IL/SIOUX CENTER, IA – The University of Sioux Falls Men's and Women's Cross Country ran split squads at two meets - Lewis College Crossover and the Dordt Invite - in Illinois and Iowa on Saturday (Oct. 9). And the results were solid.

"We had good runs by both teams at both competitions in Iowa and Illinois today. They ran hard and continue to make progress as a team which is important as we get prepped for the NSIC Championships on Oct. 23 at Wayne, Neb.," said USF Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Doug Petersen.  

At the Lewis Crossover competition, which included a field of top runners and teams, the Cougars had a number of strong performances. In the men's 8,000-meters race, junior Aaron Voigt finished 20th in 25:22 as the Cougars took 10th as a team with 331 points. Also for the men's team Jakob Hanna placed 55th in 25:57.90 while David Ecker was 59th in 26:01.90. Freshman Kade Bullion was 118th in 26:52.8 with freshman Caleb Rivera clocking a 27:16.6 for 137th place. Also for USF freshman Micade Shumway was 143rd in 27:23.5; freshman Ben Morrison, 172nd, 27:49.6; freshman Miles Olofson, 191st, 28:29.8; freshman Chase Lather, 201st, 28:41.9; and freshman Zach Matzner, 223rd, 29:57.6.

In the women's race at Lewis, USF finished 17th with 448 points as freshman Morgan Gehl was 32nd in 23:09.40. Also for USF, senior Tianna Voigt was 83rd in 24:01.00 while Khot Juac was 106th in 24:22.6; junior Annika Aho placed 146th at 24:55.8 while freshman Jessica Lutmer was 174th in 25:30.5. Also for USF, senior Zoe Cigard placed 192nd in 25:58.6 with USF's seventh runner freshman Ella Kolb at 195th at 26:04.2. Also for USF sophomore Karlee Simmons was 199th in 26:11.2 while freshman Josey Boyd was 206th in 26:19.4.

At the Dordt Invite, the men's team placed seventh with 180 points in the 8,000-meter race. The individual and results include Justin Steffensmeier, 49th, 27:56.28; Seth Overholt, 52nd, 28:05.83; Juan Castraneda, 54th, 28:10.83; Ethan Kraft, 63rd, 28:35.5; Isaac Dold, 69th, 29:03.37; Scott Obago, 82nd, 29:43.87; and Dan Gide, 91st, 30:03.98. Also for the men's team, Diego Jaimes was 92nd in 30:08.98 while Asthon Schanzer was 99th in 31:03.93.

In the women's 5,000-meters, Moriah Bullerman finished 43rd in 20:35.76, Gracie Bucher was 48th in 20:59.82, Hannah Ebert was 52nd in 21:07.43 and Marcella Sierra was 87th in 23:04.26 and Meagan Blare was 99th in 24:38.2. USF finished 7th with 204 points.
