BURNSVILLE, MINN. – Emma Hertz of the University of Sioux Falls Track and Field Team, who won two titles, set two school record and had three NCAA DII provisional marks at the Minnesota State Open and Multi on April 8-9 in Mankato, Minn., has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Field Athlete of the Week, according to an announcement from the league office on Monday, April 11.Hertz has earned the NSIC Field Athlete of the Week award five times in her career.

A five-time All-American, Hertz had a big meet for the Cougars on Friday and Saturday. With a throw of 54.52 meters – 178-10 in the discus on Friday, April 8, Hertz recorded the best throw in NCAA DII in the discus throw. Her throw, which set meet and facility records, is nearly two feet better than Zada Swoopes of West Texas A&M at 176-11 (March 19).

 

Hertz recorded school, meet, and facility records with a first place finish in the hammer throw on Saturday. With a throw of 58.35m (191-05), Hertz broke the previous meet record of 52.23m – 171-04. The throw is ranked sixth in DII and is an NCAA DII provisional mark. She also finished third in the shot put at 13.92m (45-08.50), which was an NCAA DII provisional mark. With her performance, she led USF to a fourth place team finish at the Minnesota State Open and Multi.

Hertz has 41 titles in the five throws of shot put (indoor and outdoor) discus, hammer and weight throw with 78 top-four placements.  She is the school record holder in both the weight throw and shot put indoors and the discus, hammer and shot put outdoors for five total school records. She won the 2021 NSIC Indoor shot put crown. She has 22 shot put titles, 12 in the discus, three in the hammer throws and four in the weight throws. 
 
Hertz and her USF teammates will compete at Red Raider Open in Orange City, Iowa on April 13-14 and the Loper Invitational on April 15 in Kearney, Neb.
