Emma Hertz and
KaNya Henderson both set school records to help the University of Sioux Falls Track and Field Teams continue their strong start at the South Dakota Challenge in Vermillion, S.D.
Hertz broke her own school record in the hammer throw and had a NCAA DII provisional mark at 58.76 meters -192-09.5 in finishing third. Her throw ranks sixth in DII. Henderson also broke her own school record in the 200-meters with a clocking of 24.66 (24.94, May 1, 2021). She finished third behind two DI sprinters.
"Another very good day for our team," said USF Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Doug Peterson. "We responded well to the strong competition with two more school records! It's great to see the consistency in our performances on the track and in the field events."
Women's Recap
Along with Hertz's and Henderson's school records, the women's team had a handful of good performances on the day.
Ally Welch finished in 25th in the hammer throw (46.06m, 151-01 ½) and 27th in the javelin (26.38m, 86-06 ¾), while
Olivia Baumberger threw a 33.02m (108-04) in the javelin for an 11th place finish. Mc
Kenna Comstock also had a PR in the pole vault, finishing in tenth at 3.42m (11-02.50).
On the track, along with Henderson's school record,
Emma Kenkel finished in 29th in the 200 meter (26.28) and
Myah Roggenbuck finished in 41st with a time of 27.04.
Men's Recap
On the men's side,
Marek Rex had a throw of 39.93m (131-00) for a 15th place finish in the javelin and 42.05m (137-11 1/2) for a 34th place finish in the hammer throw. Also in the hammer throw,
Jaymeson Wolkow placed 19th (48.99m, 160-08 ¾) while
Patrick Hagan finished in 20th (48.95m, 160-07 ¼).
On the track,
Joseph Donahue ran a 22.21 in the 200 m dash for a 26th place finish.

Northern State
Sophomore
Emily Swanson continues her outstanding work in the multi-events and leads the Dewey Donat heptathlon at Northern State through four events. The final three events will be held on Saturday in Aberdeen, SD. After four events, she leads the competition with 2,833 points. She is 26 points ahead of second place, Nell Graham of North Dakota State, at 2,807. Swanson was first in the 100-meter hurdles at 14.95, which was just short of her PR of 14.93, for 848 points. She had a high jump of 1.55 meters – 5-01 for 678 points as she was second in that competition. In the shot put, she had a throw of 9.99 meters – 32-09.5 for 529 points. In the 200 meters, she clocked a personal-best of 26.22 for 778 points.
