USF Track and Field's Emily Swanson sits second after day 1 of the heptathlon at the 112th Drake Relays

Swanson sets an outdoor school record with NCAA DII provisional mark in high jump

DES MOINES, IOWA -- Sophomore Emily Swanson of the University of Sioux Falls Track and Field Team is second in the University/College Division of the heptathlon after day one of the 112th Drake Relays.

During the high jump of the heptathlon, Swanson set an outdoor school record with an NCAA DII provisional mark of 1.68M - 5-06.25. She broke the USF mark of Taylor Stoltz (2021) & Sarah Gilbert (2010) of 5-05.

Swanson had a total of 2,980 points through her four events. A sophomore from O'Dell, Neb., placed second in the 100 meter hurdles for second place and 844 points. In the high jump, Swanson had an NCAA DII provisional and school record outdoor mark of at 1.68 meters - 5-6.25. With that total, she scored 903 points. She also had a third place throw in the shot put of 10.11 m - 33-2 for 537 points. Swanson ran a 26.33 in the 200 meters and finished third for 769 points.

Last week, Swanson had an NCAA DII provisional mark and second best total in school history of 4,571 points at the Dewey Donat Meet at Northern State.  

Arika Robinson of Concordia St. Paul is just ahead of Swanson for first place at 3,165 points. 

The heptathlon will wrap up on Thursday with events in the long jump, 800 meters and javelin throw. The events will begin at 11 am  with the competition
