DES MOINES, IOWA -- Sophomore
Emily Swanson of the University of Sioux Falls Track and Field Team placed second with an NCAA DII provisional mark in the University/College Division of the heptathlon which concluded Thursday at the 112th Drake Relays.
In recording her personal-best, Swanson totaled 4,759 points in the heptathlon, which broke her previous best of 4,571 set a week ago at the Dewey Donat Meet in Aberdeen, S.D. Swanson's mark ranks second all-time in program history (Katlyn Sawtelle, 5,176, 2015) and is No. 14 in NCAA Division II as of April 28. In the competition, she actually had two NCAA DII provisional marks with her overall score in the heptathlon and in the high jump.
"We are certainly proud of what Emily (Swanson) was able to do at the Drake Relays. She had a personal-best by nearly 200 points (188). It is a very encouraging performance," said USF Director of Track and Field/Cross Country
Doug Petersen.
On Thursday, she recorded a personal best in the 800-meters by clocking a winning time of 2:22.82, which generated 786 points in the heptathlon. She also earned 548 points in the long jump by going 4.96 meters - 16-3.25 for fourth place. Swanson was also fourth in the javelin throw with a toss of 28.34 meters - 92-11 for fourth place.
On Wednesday, Swanson totaled 2,980 points in four events of the heptathlon. In the high jump, she set an outdoor school record with an NCAA DII provisional mark of 1.68M - 5-06.25.With that total, she scored 903 points.The sophomore broke the USF mark of
Taylor Stoltz (2021) & Sarah Gilbert (2010) of 5-05. She also placed second in the 100 meter hurdles with a 14.98 clocking for 844 points. Swanson was third in the shot put at 10.11 m - 33-2 for 537 points and ran a 26.33 in the 200 meters and finished third for 769 points.
Arika Robinson of Concordia St. Paul finished just ahead of Swanson for first place at 5,029 points.
