DES MOINES, IOWA/INDIANOLA, IOWA -- With 10 top-10 finishes, 11 program top-10 marks and five new school records, the University of Sioux Falls Track and Field Teams gathered multiple strong performances at both the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa and the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola, Iowa. USF set four of the records today and had a high jump (5-06.25) mark by
Emily Swanson in the high jump of the heptathlon (2nd overall) on Thursday.
"It was an exciting day for our USF Cougar Track and Field Team," said USF Director of Track and Field/Cross Country
Doug Petersen. "We are looking forward to another good day on Saturday!" The records included
Tyler Hiatt throwing a DII provisional mark in the shot put of 17.95M - 58-10.75 while finishing second at the Kip Janvrin Invite. Both the 4x800 meter relay (9:20.68) and the sprint medley team (4:15.83) set relay marks while
Karlee Simmons had a record-breaking run in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:27.61).

Drake Relays
On the track, the women's team had an exciting 4x800 relay performance from the Sioux Falls 'A' team. The squad of
Khot Juac,
Morgan Gehl,
Cassidy O'Meara, and
Tianna Voigt clocked a 9:20.68 for a sixth place finish in the college division and a new school record. The sprint medley team also set a new school record, with a time of 4:15.83 for an 11th place finish. Those team members included Voigt,
KaNya Henderson,
Natalie Meyers, and
Holly Mayers.
On the field,
Emma Hertz placed sixth in the discus, throwing a 51.92m (170-4) to be the top DII finisher in the lineup and met a NCAA DII provisional mark. although it was not her personal best. In the shot put, Hertz threw a 13.78m (45-2 1/2) for a 23rd place finish.
Kip Janvrin Open
Karlee Simmons set a new school record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, clocking a 11:27.61 for a ninth place finish. In the 5,000 meter run,
Morgan Gehl ran a 17:44.85 for an eighth place finish which ranks third all-time at USF.
Jessica Lutmer was 29th in 18:18..99 and sixth all-time at USF.
On the field for the Cougars in Indianola,
Ally Welch placed 15th in the javelin, with a throw of 28.34m (93-00), and 17th in the hammer throw at 43.77m (143-07). Also in the hammer throw, MacKenzie Bengtson placed 15th with a throw of 45.70m (149-11). In the discus,
Kamry Lindsey threw a 40.64m (133-04) for an 11th place finish, while Bengtson placed 15th at 39.07m (128-02).
Sierra Stanton placed 16th in the triple jump with a jump of 9.68m (31-09.25).
On the track, Stanton placed 27th in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.20. In the 800 meter run,
Annika Aho ran a 2:18.24 for a ninth place finish, which is eighth all-time at USF.

Kip Janvrin Open
On the field, Tylet Hiatt had another record setting day for the Cougars, including a second place finish in the shot put. His throw of 17.95m (58-10.75) was a school record, an NCAA DII provsional mark, 12th best throw in DII this year, and his personal best. Hiatt also placed sixth in the discus with a throw of 50.56m (165-10). In the javelin,
Denver Decker threw a 36.82m (120-10) for a 15th place finish.
On the track,
Ben Mandel brought home an eighth place finish in the 110 meter hurdles, with a time of 15.01.
Joseph Donahue had another good day for the Cougars, including a fifth place finish in the 100 meter dash at 10.70 (second all-time at USF) and a sixth place finish in the 200 meter dash (fourth all-time at USF). In the 3,000 meter steeplechase,
Aaron Voigt took a sixth place finish, with a personal best time of 9:27.61 (third all-time at USF).
