ABERDEEN, S.D. -- With seven NCAA DII provisional marks, two school records and five All-NSIC performances, the University of Sioux Falls Track and Field Team successfully wrapped up the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships today in Aberdeen, S.D.
The Women's Team finished fifth in the team rankings with 47.5 points while the Men's Team was eighth with 40 points. As a result, both teams finished better than the preseason projections with the women projected seventh and men's team ninth.
Sophomore
Tyler Hiatt broke his own school record in the discus on Saturday. Hiatt's second place throw of 55.31 meters (180-10.00) broke his mark of 53.85m (176-08). With the throw, he has the eighth best mark in DII. He now has two All-NSIC honors at the championships. He also had two All-NSIC honors (shot put, discus) and a pair of NCAA DII provisional marks.
Emily Swanson was third in the heptathlon third and All-NSIC with a DII provisional mark while
Emma Hertz had an All-NSIC honor Friday in the hammer throw for her sixth of her career with two NCAA DII provisional marks during the meet. Also USF had NCAA DII provisional marks from
Kamry Lindsey and
Mackenzie Bengtson in the discus with Lindsey's second place finish All-NSIC.
Joseph Donahue, who had two top-six placements in the 100 (5th) and 200 meters (6th), set a school record in the 100-meters prelims of 10.62.
"This was a good championship for us," said Doug Peterson, Director of USF Track and Field/Cross Country. "We had many good performances and some very nice surprises! The coaches are very happy about the way our teams competed this weekend."
Women's Recap - Saturday events
Khot Juac took an 8th place finish in the 1,500 meters, scoring a point for USF with her personal-best of 4:39.58, which ranks third all-time at USF. In the race
Morgan Gehl had a PR of 4:40.30 (ninth place) which ranks sixth all-time. Juac also placed 11th in the 5,000 meters, with a time of 17:59.88, while Gehl placed 12th at 18:01.94. Junior
Cassidy O'Meara scored two conference points with a personal-best clocking of 2:16.50 in the 800-meters. She finished seventh with the fourth-best time in school history.
KaNya Henderson finished seventh in the 100 meters with a 12.27 clocking as she scored two conference points for the USF women. Henderson was also a member of the seventh place 4x100 meter relay team, which clocked a 48.86 to earn two conference points and tied for tenth all-time at USF. The team also included
Emma Kenkel,
Myah Roggenbuck, and
Natalie Meyers.
On the field, freshman
Kamry Lindsey had a personal-best and earned her first All-NSIC honor with a second place throw of 48.27m - 158-04 in the discus. Her throw ranks second on USF's all-time list. MacKenzie Bengtson was fourth at in the disuc at 46.37m - 152-01 for fifth all-time at USF. Both Lindsey and Bengtson had NCAA DII provisional marks.
Olivia Baumberger scored four conference points with a personal-best in placing fifth in the javelin. Her throw of 40-09m-131-06 ranks third all-time at USF and beat her previous best by 10 feet. In the triple jump,
Avery Bartunek placed 18th with a 10.73m (35-02.50).
Men's Recap - Saturday events
On the men's side,
Joseph Donahue was fifth in the 200-meter dash as he scored five points for USF after clocking a 21.83. His prelims mark of 21.50 was tied for second best all-time. He scored points for USF in both the 100M and 200M. Donahue who set a school record in the prelims of 10.62 in the 100 m, clocked a 10.75 in the finals for sixth place and three conference points.
In 1,500 meter, junior
Jakob Hanna was fifth with his PR at USF of 3:56.41 for four conference points. He was just off his overall mark by .04 hundreds of a second (3:56.40, NDSU). He had the fourth best clocking in school history.
Caleb Rivera placed 11th in the race with a time of 4:03.23. In the 5,000 meter,
Aaron Voigt clocked a 15:29.21 for a 13th place finish, while
Micade Shumway ran a 15:41.84 for an 18th place finish.
On the field, sophomore

Samuel Olson placed tenth in the pole vault with a height of 4.48m (14-08.25), while
Samuel Olson placed 14th (4.03m, 13-02.50).
