ALLENDALE, MICH. – A second team All-American performance by senior
Emma Hertz and an 18
th place finish by
Tyler Hiatt in the women's and men's shot put, respectively, wrapped up the season for the University of Sioux Falls Track and Field Team at the NCAA DII Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
In her final competition at USF, Hertz had a second team All-American honor by throwing 14.28 meters - 46-10.25. With that effort, Hertz finishes her career at USF with six All-American performances. In 2021-22, she had All-American honors in both the indoor (third place) and outdoor (11th place) shot put.
Earlier this spring, Hertz, the USF record holder in all five indoor/outdoor throwing events, helped lead the USF women's team to a fifth place finish at the NCAADII Championships. During the indoor season, Hertz was third in the shot put at the NCAA DII Indoor Championships which gave her a fifth DII All-American honor. During her career, she has accumulated 27 outdoor titles in the three events with 61 top-six finishes. She has earned five outdoor All-NSIC honors. In the shot put, she has the top 10 throws all-time at USF with a high of 48-2.75 this season.
At the NCAA DII Championships, Hiatt registered a throw of 16.91 meters – 55-02 for 18th place in the shot put. Hiatt, who set a school record of 17.95 meters – 58-10.75 earlier this year, competed in his second straight DII nationals after also earning a berth at the indoor nationals.
In his first outdoor season, he has accumulated four titles, 12 top-three finishes and 17 top-6 results in either the shot put or discus throws.
In the shot put, he has the top-six throws in school history with five tosses of 55 feet or better. He placed second in the shot put at the NSIC Championships for an All-NSIC honor.
In the discus at the NCAA DII Outdoor Championships,
Hiatt finished 17
th with a throw of 47.57 meters or 156-0. Hiatt was the only NSIC competitor in the field. This year, he placed second at the NSIC Championships (55.13-180-10 – school record) for an All-NSIC honor. He also had seven top-six finishes with five in the top three in the discus.
