USF T&F racks up four NCAA DII Provisional Marks, meet and school record, & five champions

MANKATO, MINN. -- With four NCAA DII provisional marks, a meet record, school record and five first-place finishes, the University of Sioux Falls Track and Field Team put together a solid performance in at the Maverick Open on Wednesday. With Tyler Hiatt's new school record in the discus at 53.85m-176-08, USF student-athletes have set 21 school records individually or as part of relays this outdoor season. Emma Hertz had a meet record in winning the discus.

Women's Recap
On the track, the Cougars had a first-place finish from KaNya Henderson in the 100 meter dash, clocking a 11.99, which is not her PR but a top-10 program mark.

On the field, senior Emma Hertz brought home two first-place finishes for USF, including a meet record in the discus. Hertz threw a 50.87m (166-10), which broke the previous meet record of 47.13m and was a NCAA DII provisional mark. It is the third time this year that Hertz has tossed the discus 166-10 or better, twice over 170.  In the shot put, Hertz threw a 14.47m (47-05.75) for the first-place finish and a NCAA provisional mark. She has throw 45 feet or better five times - all DII provisional marks with the throw today her second best outdoors this season. Also in the shot put, Kayla Van Osdel threw a 12.41m (40-08.75) for an eighth place finish. 

In the pole vault, MaKenzie Adams placed seventh with a height of 2.53m (8-03.50). 

Men's Recap
Sophomore Tyler Hiatt had another great day for the Cougars, including a first-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 17.11m (56-01.75), which was a NCAA DII provisional mark. Hiatt also placed second in the discus, with another NCAA DII provisional throw of 53.85m (176-08) and broke his own school record (52.22m - 171-04).

Also in the discus, Patrick Hagan threw a 45.74m (150-00) for a third place finish. Hagan also placed fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 50.27m (164-11). Also in the hammer throw, Jaymeson Wolkow placed second with a throw of 51.31m (168-04). 

On the track for the Cougars, Joseph Donahue placed first in the 200 meter dash with a clocking of 22.04 (4th best all-time at USF). Donahue also placed fourth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.86 (5th best all-time at USF). In the 110 meter hurdles, Ben Mandel had a time that bettered the previous meet record of 14.80 (now 14.16) with a seventh place clocking of 14.73m (6th best all-time at USF, although just short of his PR).
