PUEBLO – David Ecker competed tonight in the men's 3000 meter steeplechase at the 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field National Championship Meet held at Colorado State University-Pueblo.
Ecker raced in heat one of the men's 3000S. He finished 17th in the nation with a time of 9:51.01. Last month Ecker set a new USF 3000S record with a time of 8:55.86, breaking the old record by 18 seconds. Throughout the 2023 outdoor season Ecker recorded eight top ten finishes, as well as personal bests in the 800 and 1500. He was named USTFCCCA All-Region Team and the NSIC All-Conference for the men's steeplechase.
Ecker, a fifth year senior, is an eight-time NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence award recipient as well as a five-time D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award honoree. He's been named to the NSIC Elite 18 team and also earned the 2023 NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic Award. At the 2023 USF Spirit of Excellence Awards Ecker was recognized as an Honors Program Graduate, and received the Representative Man Award as well as the Outstanding Psychology Senior of the Year. Next year Ecker will be attending the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point in the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program.
