FAYETTE, IOWA – USF Men's Wrestling opened their dual season today at Upper Iowa while coming away with a 1-1 start to the season.
USF vs NEWMAN – W, 31-20
Jaxton Packer got The Coo going at 125 with a 4:29 pin over national qualifier, #10/11 Dylan Sheler. Packer controlled the whole match with three takedowns before collecting his first win of the day.
USF was open at 133
At 141-pounds, Jordon Oehme opened his first match against Trent Moses with 2 takedowns in the first period along with a 2-point nearfall to take an early 8-1 lead. With an escape and another 2-point near fall and two takedowns in the second period, Oehme picked up a 17-2 tech fall.
Lane Fink fell to Colby Schreiner at 149-pounds in a 10-4 decision.
At 157-pounds, Lincoln Fink opened the match with a takedown and a 2-point nearfall in the first period before starting the second period on top and riding out the whole 2-minute period. With a crazy third period, Fink battled back to finish the match with an 14-8 decision over Hunter Dietrich
Joel Thompson fell to Jace Fisher at 165-pounds in a 20-5 tech fall.
At 174-pounds, Cooper Sanders picked up the first takedown of the match late in the first period to take an early 3-0 lead. Following and reversal in the second period, Sanders picked up a 3:59 pin over Skyler Geer.
Grant Moraski picked up a quick 1:19 pin over Dane Donigian at 184-pounds while recording two takedowns and a 4-point nearfall.
At 197-pounds, Stetson Davis defeated Erik Tomanek in a 22-7 tech fall with 1-second left in the match. Davis tallied five takedowns, an escape, a reversal and a 3-point nearfall.
Isaiah Laguna fell to Caleb Wunsch at 285-pounds in a 3:34 pin.
USF vs UPPER IOWA - L, 32-12
Packer took on Jackson Heaston to open dual two of the day at 125-pounds. Packer came away with a 6-4 decision to move to 2-0 on the day and 11-4 on the season.
USF was open at 133
At 141-pounds, Jordon Oehme picked up a big overtime win over national qualifier #12/12 Ryan Wehner in an 8-5 sudden victory. Oehme tabbed two escapes and two takedowns on his way to a 2-0 day and a 6-1 season record.
Lane Fink fell to Ethen Doty at 149-pounds in a 17-1 tech fall. Lane went 0-2 on the day and is 9-6 on the year.
Lincoln Fink fell to Dalton Schams at 157-pounds in a in a 15-6 major decision. Lincoln finished the day 1-1 to move to 9-5 on the season.
At 165-pounds, Cooper Sanders picked up a 3:12 pin over Collin Altensey. Sanders finished 2-0 on the day and sits 11-3 on the season.
Grant Moraski fell to Lawson Losee in a 12-8 decision. Moraski went 1-1 on the day and sits 5-5 on the year.
USF was open at 184-pounds.
Stetson Davis fell to Geoffrey Freeman in a 20-3 tech fall. Davis finished 1-1 on the day and moves to 5-4 on the season.
Isaiah Laguna fell to Clayton Ours in an 8-3 decision to finish the day 0-2 while moving to 7-4 on the year.
The Cougars will hit the road to take on #3 Parkside on December 6th in Kenosha, Wisconsin followed by a dual at #1 St. Cloud State on December 8th. USF will return home on December 13th to host Minnesota State at 7pm inside the Stewart Center.
