SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – USF Men's Wrestling returned to the Stewart Center for an NSIC matchup against the Minot State Beavers tonight. The Cougars fell to the Beavers 24-18 to move to 5-8 on the season and 0-5 in NSIC matchups.
Jaxton Packer fell to Dylan McDonald in an 11-5 decision at 125-pounds. Packer moves to 11-8 on the year, 2-4 in duals and 0-4 in NSIC matchups.
#8/11 Beau Klingensmith opened the 133-pound match with a win over #18 Wayne Joint. Klingensmith finished the first period with a 3-1 lead. Following an escape, Joint added a takedown to tie the match at four before Klingensmith added a takedown and ride time for the 8-6 decision win. Klingensmith advances to 12-1 on the season, 9-0 in dual matchups and 3-0 against NSIC opponents.
At 141-pounds, #18 Jordon Oehme defeated Adrian Chavez. Chavez scored first, but Oehme controlled the rest of the match with an escape and takedown in the first period to take a 4-3 lead. During the second period, Oehme picked up an escape and a takedown to go up 8-3 before closing the match with a 4:39 pin to advance to 12-6 on the year, 8-5 in dual settings and 2-3 in NSIC matchups.
Sir Brandon Watts picked up his first NSIC win of his career with a 4-0 decision over Ethan Wonser. With a scoreless first period, Watts scored first with an escape in the second followed by 2-nearfall points and ride time to secure the win. Watts advances to 4-3 on the year, 1-1 in duals and 1-0 against NSIC opponents.
Lincoln Fink fell to Ryan Hrcka at 157-pounds in a 2-1 decision. Lincoln moves to 12-13 on the year, 4-9 in duals and 0-5 in NSIC matchups.
At 165-pounds, Cooper Sanders fell to Brendan Barnes in a 4:40 pin to move to 14-11 on the year, 5-8 in dual settings and 0-5 against NSIC opponents.
Grant Moraski fell to Gavin Turk in an 8-2 decision. Moraski falls to 9-10 on the year, 5-4 in dual matchups and 0-3 in NSIC matches.
At 184-pounds, Daevon Vereen defeated Dom Howlett in a 1:27 pin. Vereen opened the match with a quick takedown followed by 2-nearfall points before closing it out to advance to 10-5 on the season, 5-3 in dual settings and 1-1 against NSIC opponents.
Stetson Davis fell to #15 Cannon Potts at 197-pounds in 1:03 pin and moves to 5-14 on the year, 1-11 in duals and 0-4 in NSIC matches.
Isaiah Laguna took on #9 Jake Swirple at 285-pounds falling in an 8-2 decision and moving to 12-10 on the year, 5-8 in dual matchups and 1-4 against NSIC opponents.
