Cougars Roll to Win Over Peru State

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The University of Sioux Falls Men's Basketball team put together its most complete offensive performance of the season on Friday night inside the Stewart Center, rolling past Peru State 97–67 behind a 57-point first half, 24 assists, and 46 total rebounds. Five Cougars scored at least eight points as USF improved to 2–4 on the year.


Game Summary

USF dominated the night with a season-best showing in ball movement and shot creation, assisting on 24 of 32 made field goals while turning the ball over just five times in the game. The Cougars shot 61.3 percent before halftime and used a 17-0 run to build a 57–31 lead at the break. Peru State hit 10 threes and received 47 bench points but struggled to keep pace with USF's interior scoring, transition play, and overall efficiency.

In the second half, the Cougars continued to control the margins—winning fast break points 28–17, points off turnovers 28–8, and finishing with a 44–30 edge in the paint. USF went 26-for-31 from the line, outrebounded the Bobcats 46–39, and held Peru State to 41.3 percent shooting from the field.


How It Happened

First Half

USF delivered its most explosive offensive half of the season, shooting 19-for-31 (61.3 percent), knocking down five threes, and sinking 14 free throws. The Cougars' ball movement defined the half—recording 16 assists and committing only two turnovers—while putting together a 17-0 surge that flipped a 20–18 deficit into a double-digit cushion.

Defensively, USF forced six Peru State turnovers and turned them into 18 first-half points, fueling transition opportunities that produced 14 fast-break points. Kyle Ingwerson scored 22 before the break, Brogan Madson added 10, and Brandon Hrncir tallied 10 with 9 assists as USF entered halftime leading 57–31.

Second Half

USF's efficiency cooled to 29.5 percent shooting in the second half, but their defensive pressure, rebounding, and transition play remained steady. The Cougars held Peru State to 40 percent shooting and just 16 points in the paint after the break while adding 20 more points in the paint themselves.

USF continued to build separation with 12-of-13 free-throw shooting and 14 fast-break points. Lewis Woosnam (seven second-half points), Camden Davis (five rebounds, four points), and James Spencer III (four rebounds) helped maintain a comfortable lead as the Cougars closed out the 30-point win.
