MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – Sioux Falls (4-12, 0-2 NSIC) opened conference play with a pair of losses to Minnesota Duluth on Friday, falling 5-3 in Game 1 before being shut out 2-0 in Game 2. The Cougars battled in both matchups but couldn't generate enough offense late to secure a win.
How It Happened
Game 1 – Sioux Falls 3, Minnesota Duluth 5
USF got on the board early as Isaac Bonner's RBI groundout in the first inning gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead. The game remained tight until the sixth when UMD pushed across two runs to take the lead.
Sioux Falls responded in the seventh, tying the game at 3-3 thanks to Ben Serie's clutch two-run single. But UMD answered right back in the eighth with a two-run homer from Garrett Stauffacher, sealing the win.
Game 2 – Sioux Falls 0, Minnesota Duluth 2
The Cougars struggled to find offensive momentum in the nightcap, managing just one hit against UMD's Caden Klebba, who threw a complete-game shutout.
Minnesota Duluth struck in the first inning, plating two runs on an RBI single from Gabe Richardson and a groundout by Joey Flom. Logan Anderson gave USF a chance to stay in it, throwing six strong innings while allowing just four hits.
