SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – In a game that had everything—runs, shot-making, drama, and overtime heroics—the University of Sioux Falls men's basketball team outlasted Wayne State 119–114 in a Wednesday night classic inside the Stewart Center. Behind a historic, record-tying performance from freshman Brogan Madson and a dominant offensive showing across the board, the Cougars delivered one of the most electric wins of the season.
Sioux Falls shot a blistering 63.2 percent from the field and poured in 119 points against a traditionally stout Wildcat defense, overcoming an early 13-point deficit and surviving a late Wayne State rally that forced overtime before pulling away in the extra session with clutch shooting and poise.
Game Summary
This contest was an offensive showcase from the opening tip to the final buzzer. USF connected on 43-of-68 shots from the field (63.2 percent), including an absolutely ridiculous 21-of-29 (72.4 percent) in the second half alone. The Cougars were unstoppable. They dominated inside, outscoring Wayne State 64–44 in the paint while consistently attacking off cuts, drives, and beautiful ball movement. Despite being outrebounded and surrendering 12 offensive boards, USF limited Wayne State to just eight second-chance points—a critical defensive effort in a game decided in overtime.
Brogan Madson delivered a performance for the ages, tying the USF Division II era single-game scoring record with 45 points on an efficient 14-of-18 shooting, including four threes and 13-of-17 from the free-throw line. He was everywhere. He scored from every level. He couldn't be stopped.
Taylen Ashley wasn't far behind, adding 30 points on 12-of-19 shooting, giving USF a lethal one-two punch that proved absolutely too much for Wayne State to handle. The Cougars had five players in double figures and received near triple-double production from Gerard Bosch, who finished with 11 points, nine assists, and nine rebounds while orchestrating the offense with precision.
How It Happened
First Half
Wayne State came out aggressive and physical, building a 13-point lead midway through the half as both teams worked through defensive pressure early. The Wildcats shot 48.6 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes, forcing USF into eight turnovers and capitalizing on early rhythm and momentum.
But Brogan Madson had other ideas.
The freshman took complete control of the half, scoring 21 first-half points on 7-of-10 shooting while knocking down three triples and four free throws to fuel the Cougar comeback. He attacked the rim. He hit threes. He got to the line. He was unstoppable.
USF shot 51.5 percent from the field and turned five offensive rebounds into seven second-chance points, steadily chipping away at the deficit possession by possession. By halftime, the 13-point hole had been reduced to just two points, with the Cougars trailing 45–43 and seizing momentum heading into the locker room.
Second Half
The offensive fireworks intensified after halftime—and the shooting numbers became almost unbelievable. Sioux Falls shot a remarkable 21-of-29 (72.4 percent) from the floor in the second half, with 36 of its 58 points coming in the paint. Everything was falling. Every cut led to a basket. The offense was clicking on every level.
Taylen Ashley poured in 18 second-half points, attacking the rim and finishing through contact. Madson added 16 more, staying aggressive and continuing his historic night. Gerard Bosch orchestrated the entire offense with timely cuts, pinpoint passes, and basketball IQ that made everyone better.
But Wayne State refused to fade. The Wildcats shot 19-of-34 (55.9 percent) and 5-of-9 from three in the half, answering every USF run with shot-making of their own. With 21 seconds left in regulation, USF held a five-point lead and appeared to have the game in hand.
Then the drama unfolded. A combination of Wayne State free throws and a late three-pointer tied the game at 101–101, sending the contest to overtime and setting up one final act.
Overtime
The extra period belonged entirely to the Cougars. USF went 5-of-6 from the field, a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc, and hit five crucial free throws to close it out with precision and composure. There was no panic. No hesitation. Just execution.
Brogan Madson added eight more points in overtime, pushing his historic total to 45 and tying the USF Division II era single-game scoring record. Taylen Ashley contributed six points in the extra session, and Sioux Falls outscored Wayne State 18–13 in the period to secure the 119–114 victory in front of a roaring, delirious crowd.
