MANKATO, Minn. – The University of Sioux Falls men's and women's track & field teams wrapped up the regular season at the Maverick Open with a strong collection of event wins, personal records, and nationally ranked performances as the Cougars prepare for the NSIC Indoor Championships nest weekend.
On the women's side, senior Tamia Horton once again led the way. Horton qualified first in the 60-meter prelims before winning the final in 7.42, continuing her dominant indoor campaign with her fourth consecutive 60m crown of the season. In the hurdles, Piper Hanson delivered one of the top performances of the day, running a personal-best 8.89 in the 60m hurdles to place third and move into the NCAA Division II top 80. Kendall Anderson followed with a season-best 9.14 for fourth, while Tierney Faulk added a sixth-place finish at 9.20.
The field events were equally productive for the Cougars. Erika Imdieke captured the high jump title with a personal-best clearance of 1.64 meters (5-4.50), a mark that ranks among the top 75 in Division II this season. Peyton Hanson also secured a victory, clearing 3.80 meters (12-5.50) in the pole vault for a personal best that ranks inside the national top 30.
USF showed strong depth in the horizontal jumps as well. Cadence Nuttbrock posted a personal-best 5.50 meters in the long jump to lead the group, while Kendra Hall paced the triple jump with a runner-up finish at 11.35 meters, a mark that lands inside the Division II top 100. Delanie VanDriel added a second place finish in the weight throw for the women with a toss of 16.59 meters (54-5.25).
On the men's side, Andrew Edwards continued his exceptional season by winning the weight throw with a mark of 20.29 meters (66-7.00). Jackson Gacke added a personal-best throw of 15.10 meters to place sixth. In the shot put, Landen Schmidt led the Cougars with a 10th-place finish.
Bryson Canton delivered a standout track performance, placing second in the 800 meters with a personal-best 1:57.21. Ethan Schwankl added a fourth-place finish in the 600 meters, while Chase Henderson placed seventh in the 800.
The sprint group also provided solid efforts in the final regular-season tune-up. DJ WhiteBuffalo placed fourth in the 400 meters, with Sabas DeHaan finishing seventh. In the 60-meter prelims, Jonny Cheney and Micah Holien both ran competitive times, while Jordan Davis recorded a personal record.
With momentum building and multiple athletes peaking at the right time, the Cougars now turn their focus to championship competition.
