MANKATO, MINN. –
Carolyn Groeger took first in the women's pole vault and
Logan Hansen won the men's 600-meter run to highlight the University of Sioux Falls Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Team's strong performance on the second day (Saturday) of the Minnesota State University Mark Schuck Open and Multi Invitational.
The USF Men's Team finished in ninth place with 41 total points at the meet. MSU claimed first place with 239 points, Concordia-St. Paul was second with 83 points and Wayne State came in third with 67 points. The USF Women's Team finished the weekend with 42 points, which was good for a seventh place finish. MSU posted the top overall score of 202, while Winona State finished second with 144 weekend points.
Groeger, a freshman, tied for the top overall jump in the women's pole vault with a final height of 3.27 meters (10' 8.75") along with Augustana pole vaulter Lily Noble. Groeger has now accumulated two total pole vault victories on the season, with the other coming at the MSU Invite. She was also a runner up at the SDSU DII Invite. Senior
Brenna Schmidt posted a 2.82 meter jump, which was good for a sixth place finish.
In the women's 1,000-meter run, USF sophomore
Kiara Mattern finished second with a clocking of 3:11.88. Senior
Mattisen Kelley took 10
th in 3:24.14.
Freshman
Taylor Stoltz was third in the women's high jump with a height of 1.57 meters (5' 1.75"). Stoltz was just edged out by Teya Lanston (MSU) and Kendra Ludeman (Augustana), who both jumped 1.62 meters (5' 3.75").
Kayla Andersen gained a point in the women's weight throw with an eighth place toss of 16.30 meters (53' 5.75"). Anderson was edged out by Wayne State's Nicole Heeren who also posted a throw of 16.30 meters, but her second farthest throw of 16.25 meters was farther than Anderson's second farthest throw (16.19 meters).
USF sophomore
Emma Hertz logged a fourth place finish in the women's shot put at 13.98 meters (45' 10.50"). Hertz beat out MSU thrower Sydney Thompson who threw for 13.97 meters (45' 10.00") for fifth place.
Hansen, a sophomore, won the men's 600-meter run in 1:24.77 by edging Wayne State runner Bryce Holcomb (1:24.93) at the wire. USF freshman
Jayden Slaba came in sixth place at 1:27.40.
Senior
Joseph Kirkebak posted a seventh place finish in the men's high jump at 1.89 meters (6' 2.25").
In the men's 60-meter hurdles, junior
Jacob Morse was seventh in 8.82. Â
USF will next compete in the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational on Feb. 1-2 in Lincoln, Neb.
