BROOKINGS – Senior All-American
Mason Phillips of the University of Sioux Falls Men's Track and Field Team set a meet record in the men's 1,000-meter run to highlight the first day for the Cougars at the South Dakota State Indoor Classic.
The USF men's team wrapped up the day tied for third with SDSU after recording 14 overall points. Iowa Central Community College recorded 21 points and sits in first and the University of Manitoba is in second with 17 points.Â
In the 1,000-meter run, Phillips set the meet record by clocking 2:25.92. In the race, USF placed three of the top eight and five in the top 10. Junior
Zach Lundberg finished fourth in 2:27.35, senior
Billy Beseman was seventh in 2:29.08, senior
Jase Kraft was ninth (2:29.42) and sophomore
Logan Hansen was 10
th at 2:31.62.
USF senior sprinter
Trey Furgeson took second in the men's 600-meter dash with a time of 1:20.16 as he was just edged out by University of Manitoba runner Simon Berube, who finished in 1:19.90.
USF Women's Track and Field's
Taryn Ceglowski took 11
th in the woman's 3,000 meter run with a clocking of 10:14.36.
Sophomore
Kiara Mattern claimed 14
th in the women's 1,000 meter run after a 3:09.19 posting.
Keegan Day took 21
st in a 3:13.07.
USF Track and Field will be back in action on Saturday with split squads at the SDSU Indoor Classic and at the St. Johns Invitational.
